There's room for all of us at the top

Looking at my Bookworm like "I've only read 5 books this year? Really?" and realising that one of them was It, which is basically 3 books-worth so I'm probably good
yeah i'm good ty how r u
Oh no! I'm glad to hear it's not bad overall though D:
I LOVE OUR UBER CAPITALIST SOCIETY
Even as a smol busines personally I always have a small fear about something happening with a merch supplier or sponsor that causes this kinda furvor. I've seen people demand info from creators that I know contractually they cannot give and it's a lil scaryy
I've seen hints of it before, but goodness me it's still a shock.
But let's also a) not dogpile and berate anyone who is already going through the shit
b) accept that we will never know the details of the contract between parties- and not assume the worst of everyone
c) consider how realistic our demands are, and if we're in any place to make them
We should be sceptical of every corporation, whether it's a big IP like Neopets, who are more likely to be callous and uncompromising, or a smaller business like Geekify, who are more likely to make mistakes. We should be especially sceptical when we are told upfront that our money might go away.
I don't want my money back at the expense of the salaries of the people that worked for it for three years.
This reminds me a little of the Disco Elysium drama, and how much pain was directed at the employees there, who had done nothing but work hard to create a beloved masterpiece.
The demands that so many backers are making, the vitriol being directed towards the Geekify team... it looks like a bunch of screaming children to me, utterly naive and seriously undervaluing, like so much of the world, art and artists.
to show they spent the money on the project for example, and if funds were mismanaged then that's a legitimate case for legal action. But you can't just demand a refund the moment you hear a project hasn't worked out. You agreed to that, upfront.
Finally, and I hate to be /that guy/ about this but... Kickstarter has that disclaimer for a reason. It's not in small print, like I keep seeing people suggesting. You accept when you support a project that it might not be finished. Yes they have obligations-
"Just completely rework all the artwork you've made into something unique" essentially means starting over. With backers demanding refunds and a copyright threat if anything vaguely resembles Neopets... do people not know what it takes to MAKE creative works? I'm still in shock at this suggestion
First of all: the chances of getting away with that contractually are iffy. It'd have to be a very thorough rewriting of an entire world of lore and re-doing ALL the artwork to make it unrecognisable as Neopets style. Do the people suggesting this use chatgpt I wonder?
If Neopets says "no, it's over, that's the end of it" then that 3 years of work by Geekify stays locked up regardless of their desires. Which brings me to "just re-skin and release it alone". Amazing how many people have suggested this.
Firstly: I know what it's like working with a big IP. You are very much at their mercy, and if they aren't communicative you are stuck. There's naivety in the folks demanding a release of existing material- that's on the IP holder.
My lack of social media usage in recent times (save my dumb shit on here) meant that I bungled into the neopets ttrpg drama when everything was already on fire/over
I'm not interested in trying to guess bts and assign blame, but I have some thoughts about the community responses...
Hello u lot, any artists who commission commercial designs got space or a fren who does? I have a stupid idea
yis mr parthusnacks and also this silly lil guy from my fav ratchet and clank game
in this hous we only recognise chorles mortinaz
IT'S AMAZING
Uh, no sorry. I am not whoever you think I am
Steam I do not think- I do not think this fits in the standard 'farming sim' genre
Is it really worth the savings to have a broken ai tool instead of real customer support ;~; Like... I know people who have been to Google's parties, they can afford to pay human beings bro
So I went all the way back to the main support page to try and get a gosh dang email contact and it seems to think the only way to change my account details is to post to the community. And the stupid accounts page just says to contact support to make this change. I'm π
It just told me 'yeah sorry mate that's not my area' even though I'd used it a minute earlier lmaoo. The human ended the chat as soon as they told me to use the bot again so I had no one to check that it worked and couldn't reach them again because of the bot.
I'm losing my mind with Google support. It's always been terrible, but there's this new beta chat bot now. The chat bot sent me to a human, who told me I needed to do the chatbot again but select 'email' for contact because they couldn't do it via chat. The second time the bot wouldn't talk to me-
Why is this so fucking funny to me
