I'm not done sharing my story, because I never want anyone else to have to endure what I went through. I will keep fighting, and I will earn my PhD some day—somewhere where my talents and identity are appreciated for who I am.
I will never forget the pain and suffering that I endured over the last year, the questioning of my self worth, and the struggle to reconnect with my love for science. I will never forgive NYU or the person who hurt me, but I also won't let this experience define me.
I was told that having autism was a detriment to the lab, and that the extra time I would need to ask questions and fulfill tasks was a hindrance. I was told my academics and scientific knowledge were superb, but it didn't matter, because my disability was too much to handle.
A year ago today, I was told I could not continue in my PhD program at NYU. I wasn't given a real answer as to why—but it was the worst day of my life.
Two weeks later, during a mediation with my adviser, I learned that it was because she "didn't have time" for my disability.
I'm very concerned about Chancellor Palpatine. I find it strange that he was elected after a smear campaign towards the former Chancellor. I also find it odd that he requested emergency powers at the start of his second term, and that the Senate seems to fall in line with him.
I am terrified of not finding a job that feeds my soul.
