The thing about Mamdani is that he’s a talented politician but not otherworldly or one in a billion, he’s just a competent guy with popular ideas who ran against an entitled piece of shit and to me it’s a lot more optimistic to imagine 1000 campaigns like his than to view him as a unique phenomenon

I want to taste some Hershey’s chocolate from like the 1950s to see if Hershey Bars always tasted *this* bad, or if it’s gradually gotten as shitty as it can get away with over decades. It’s never been, like, legit European chocolate. But always this awful?

the beginning of Moving Out by Kacey Musgraves sounds a lot like the beginning of Pink Floyd’s Breathe.

Do you know what's NOT going to make an awful job market better? A fuckton of freelancers suddenly looking for employment with affordable health insurance benefits.

"unicode for style" in the style of a Mamdani campaign poster. "unicode" is written in Art Decoish lettering with doubled verticals, and each letterof "style" is in its own square with rounded-off edges

why hasn’t the pilots union called a nationwide strike in solidarity with their (admittedly nonunion) air traffic controllers and TSA officers? Show the world what a fucking union is capable of.

We just decided to connect all our minds to each other in realtime on this internet thing and didn’t give much forethought to what that’d ultimately mean. Our brains weren’t wired for this level of interconnectivity over this wide of an audience.

Our digital footprints are signals into the future to our descendants; our artifacts. Future generations will have stronger signals than our own because more will be tracked and recorded. AI will digest it all.

What a weird position Taiwan is in. Sort of soothsayer tie breaker harbinger of who owns the next century.

06.11.2025 06:48 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I know the whole thing is way way way more complex than that. But our media really really does propagandize this whole β€œTaiwan yearns to be western and free” narrative. Do they? Should they?

Like… at some point you have to look at the trajectory of both nations and extrapolate the better partner. Americans are conditioned to think β€œduh, USA” but … fuck no … we’re not gonna dominate the next century, the Chinese are. Why would Taiwan ally with the U.S.?

If I were Taiwan (And I’m not, I’m some shithead, not 23 million lived Taiwanese) if I were Taiwan, and I saw my path as ”go with these (Chinese) guys or go these (American) guys as your BFF for the next 100 years…” :hmm:

A color portrait of beloved American actor and comedian Bob Saget (1956-2022). Saget was a ubiquitous presence in the 1990s, first as widower Danny Tanner on the sitcom Full House, and then as host of the long-running reality show America’s Funniest Home Videos. Saget would do cheeky voices of grumpy dogs falling into water and out-of-shape dads getting beamed in the groin with baseballs, introducing every video with the warning, Don’t try this at home. In 2028 Saget’s estate unsuccessfully sued the Walt Disney Company to prevent ABC from relaunching the show with an AI-powered deepfake of Saget hosting. The production was a joint collaboration between Disney, Amazon, and the Department of Defense, with the video repertoire expanded to include Ring camera footage and drone attacks. The new America’s Funniest Videos has continued to be a hit and is available for streaming on Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney+, and DoD Tonight (paid version only).

Something about being a techie in San Francisco makes you feel a tiny bit like a rockstar. All the billboards, all the ads, all the buildings, are all shit you work on and with all day.
