Walked into my geochem lab to find some amazing people organized my haphazard lab tape collection rainbow style and now my Monday is infinitely better π§ͺ

I got to hold a really cool rock today! Inside are the oldest minerals ever dated (from our planet at least) 4.4 billion year old zircons from the Jack Hills of Australia!
Looking forward to reading it!!
Me to my kid: I need to write 6 pages for this grant and I only have 1 page done.
My kid: why did you pick a job that has so much homework??!? *laughs hysterically*

You have great recs so far - Iβll also add βA short history of nearly everythingβ by Bill Bryson - it is an incredibly fun read - but covers history of geology as a discipline (and biology and humanity) as well. Get the illustrated version if you can!
Some cool textures under the microscope showing multiple generations of iron & manganese oxide cements in brecciated Antietam Fm. (Cambrian depositional age) quartzite in the western Blue Ridge of Virginia.
Beautiful!! Iβm such a sucker for iron and manganese oxides, and to see these cool results from a formation right in my own backyard is just stellar! I want to check these out with SEM/EDS (and micro-Raman while Iβm dreaming) so badly! Very cool work
Forest fires in the Blue Ridge mountains means the kidβs school is closed again (third day running) tomorrow - last year we had no snow days. Canβt help but worry this is a new normal to have wildfire days instead of snow daysβ¦
Rainbow spotted on the road to #GSA2023 sending good vibes for a great conference. Looking forward to seeing all you geo cool cats and kittens there!

Getting to be on @wgbh.org NOVA is, well, pretty amazing. Thanks to the incredible team of folks who made this happen. I suspect the whole series will be great - so check them all out as they drop! www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/vi...
Calling all biogeochemists! I am co-chairing this theme at Goldschmidt next year. We are looking for more sessions particularly on metabolisms of new phylogenetic lineages, evolution of microbial traits through time, or habitability and bio signatures in other planetary systems. Reach out! π§ͺβοΈπ¦

You are so very wise haha!!! π
Agreed! And if Jack-o-lanterns, they are poisonous so make safe choices!
Tips on how best to spoil a cat? The vet says Whittakers has a month to a year left (boo heart disease) and I want to give her the time of her life.
So please give me your recs for treats / food / toys / things that make your cat extra happy!

Sunday walk through the woods found us a giant puffball! Another critter had found it before us, but still a happy find!

Hopping on the train to ask the same! Could I be added to the list as well? πͺ¨βοΈ
Late to the party but better late than never?! π©βπ«
There *is* a family of turkeys in the forest so maybe that was her plan! I probably made her grumpy by holding her then!
Happy Caturday from the old lady cat Whittakers!
She escaped the confines of the house when we went on our forest walk and found us. She got carried for the rest of the walk because she deserves to be treated like the absolute queen/ruler of our home that she is.
Hey BlueSky! Iβm an environmental geochemist who plays with minerals metals and microbes (esp. fungi π) to study metal biogeochemical cycling & remediation.
