Another busy week here in Ottawa! 🇨🇦
It’s always a privilege to bring the voices of Dartmouth—Cole Harbour to Parliament—and that sense of honour never fades.

Affordable Housing Housing is considered affordable when it costs less than 30% of a household's before-tax income, based on the median household income in a given region. This type of housing is aimed at middle-income households, such as essential workers (e.g., construction workers, care providers, teachers, nurses, etc.). It reflects what people in the middle of the income spectrum can reasonably afford in their local area.

Deeply Affordable Housing Housing is considered deeply affordable when it costs less than 30% of a household's before-tax income, based on the median income of low- or very-low-income households in a region. This type of housing supports those with limited or fixed incomes, such as minimum wage earners, low-income seniors, or people receiving social assistance. It ensures that even the most economically vulnerable can access safe and stable housing, including people experiencing homelessness through housing first approaches and supportive housing options.

I’m pushing to see that we have deeply affordable opportunities in Shannon. I believe rent geared to income and other options in the affordability spectrum are crucial.

The name “Africville Seasides” was chosen by community members to honour their championship-winning hockey team, which played in Canada’s first and only all-Black men’s league in the early 1900s.

A powerful name, for a place with powerful meaning.

—displaced by racism, but the spirit of Africville lives on through the resilience of its people and the strength of the families who for over 120 years on this land built a vibrant, close-knit community rooted in history, pride, and deep connection to one another.

But what made this facility’s opening especially meaningful was standing alongside members of the Africville community to celebrate the naming of the building: Africville Seasides. 🏒

This land carries deep significance. It is part of the historic Africville community—

From March 2024 to July 2025, CBSA officers at this new facility seized:
🚗 189 stolen vehicles
🌿 Nearly 2,000 kg of cannabis
💊 Over $200 million worth of narcotics
That’s what frontline border enforcement looks like—keeping Canadians safe.

This isn’t just another federal building. The MCEF is a critical part of our national security and economic infrastructure. CBSA officers here are on the front lines—intercepting drugs, weapons, and stolen vehicles before they reach our communities.

One meaningful moment of the summer was joining members of the Africville community to celebrate the opening of the new Marine Container Examination Facility (MCEF) at the Port of Halifax.

Since the boundary changes, Dartmouth—Cole Harbour has grown significantly—to around 100,000 constituents!

While Parliament’s been adjourned, I’ve been busy connecting with folks, businesses, and community leaders across Dartmouth—Cole Harbour and HRM. 🧵

Whether you’re spending the day at the beach, at a community event, or enjoying a backyard BBQ—I hope you’re able to enjoy the sunshine and spend time with the people you love!

Today, we celebrate the incredible people, communities, and values that make Canada the strong and special country we’re so proud to call home.

I’ve had the opportunity to meet some truly inspiring advocates and families who are raising awareness and pushing for better care for those living with sickle cell disease.

Every year during #Pride Season, I think back to that powerful moment in 2016 when we raised the Pride flag on Parliament Hill for the very first time.

Despite all the responsibility he carried, Marc always made time for his colleagues—because he deeply understood how important it is to help the people we represent. He was always generous with his advice and support.

Thinking of his loved ones and all those mourning this loss.

Canada has lost a trailblazer.

So sad to hear about the passing of my former colleague, Marc Garneau—Canada’s first astronaut, a dedicated public servant, and one of the kindest, most thoughtful people in politics.

I’m honoured to be sworn in once again as the Member of Parliament for Dartmouth—Cole Harbour. It meant so much to have Anne and Ava there with me.

I’m deeply grateful to the people of Dartmouth—Cole Harbour for placing your trust in me once again. We’ve got a lot of work to do—together. ❤️
