Got off a call with coworkers earlier where they were praising SoraAI and I had to keep my mouth absolutely the fuck shut because I wanted to go off on them, particularly when I mentioned I animate and someone called it "a dead field soon"

So, mini rant time! (1/10)

If you've stuck around this long, thanks for reading. I genuinely got emotional while writing this out because it made me realize that after so many years, I was able to find a creative outlet that finally clicked for me and has brought me more joy than you can imagine, even with the challenges 💙

Pick up a pen, start up Blender (it's free!), do SOMETHING instead of feeding into a system designed to stifle true creativity. You are never too old- I'm 30 and I picked up Blender when I was almost 29. I and countless others are proof that you can do it.

All that to say- You cannot pour passion into a prompt, the machine is incapable of understanding emotion, intent, and purpose. It's incompatible with it. It's code that steals and rips from those dedicated to their craft and spits out a insulting facsimile of an actual creation.

Learning isn't meant to be easy. You can't flick a switch and be good at something in the blink of an eye. It's a journey, and by using Sora, Veo, or whatever the fuck some investment-fueled slopfest wants to make, you are robbing yourself of that experience and stealing from others in the process.

Through each failure I gained some level of understanding, and with those failures came feeling downtrodden at times, sure, but it all culminated and continues to culminate in those successful projects I share. I'm not perfect, I have a lot to learn, but I'm not going to take shortcuts to success.

There were times where I'd see other animators make incredible things with insane effects, and initially found that to be demotivating, but shifted my perspective to being INSPIRED by those who are further along in their journey.

So, I sat down and got to work, failed, succeeded, failed, and so on.

Has it been easy? No. In some ways, certain concepts came naturally to me within the 3D space. But countless hours over the last year and a half, trial and error, testing new concepts, tens upon tens of project files that went nowhere even after pouring time into them- But that's the point!

Over the years I corrected that view and gained a huge admiration for artists of all sorts.

In learning how to animate, I came full circle on this understanding. Something that started with my model as a "well, might as well learn Blender" moment unlocked a new avenue for expression, a new passion.

I remember when I was younger, pre-fandom Xenon but a lurker, and I used to think artists were so "lucky" that they were so talented and could create worlds with a brushstroke, when in reality that brushstroke was preceded by hours upon hours of learning, trial and error, and hard work.
