Today, the LA City Council voted unanimously on the Epithet Motion which restricts the use of inflammatory language in Council and Committee meetings. The use of inflammatory language is quite frankly disruptive, harmful, and deters others from participating.

What’s been touted as the Big Beautiful Bill will soon show its ugly face. Presented in the dead of night, passed without proper discussion, and hidden from public view—this bill will crater the national and LA economies. Hurting working families from housing, to medicaid, to SNAP, and education.

We understand the fight; we intend to stay in the fight, and we will not relent one single inch of our sovereignty, our dignity, and, most of all, our rights as human beings and citizens of this country.

Juneteenth is a day for us to remember the broad shoulders we stand on, to celebrate the dip and sway of the music that inspires us, and to appreciate the art and literature that tells our story.
