Our review is finally here! We include all the terrestrial and semi-aquatic mammal-focused #eDNA and #iDNA studies available up to Jan 2025! It's amazing to see how far this field has come 🧬🦦

Tapiwa's PhD was supervised by Drs David O'Neill, Orla O'Donovan, and Catherine O'Reilly. Many thanks to Dr Orla Cahill (TU Dublin) for serving as external examiner. I was privileged to be his internal examiner.

Congratulations to @TapiwaNyakauru1 on successfully defending his PhD! πŸŽ‰ His research explored the genomic & proteomic effects of heavy metal exposure on hyperaccumulator plants Eichhornia crassipes & Pistia stratiotes. Wishing him the best in his next steps!

I started Ireland's most ambitious camera trap project in Wicklow as part of the Snapshot Europe initiative ☘️

Since 2021, I have partnered with UCD and ReWild Wicklow - deploying 150 camera traps, collecting ~400,000 photos, and ~31 years worth of survey effort.

Absolutely - might just take a little longer for their genetics to catch up.

Last part of this site sampling session in the Southwest this week

Looking at Lesser Horseshoe Bats (micro)habitat use!

What's been done;

🟒 Static Detectors
🟒 DNA Metabarcoding (using faeces)
🟒 Invertebrate Sampling

(SM4-Bat from 2 weeks ago)
