29.09.2025 15:58 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0If Democrats wait, they may not get another chance. The shutdown is leverage, but it is fleeting.
Now, some people have argued to me that we simply can't support any cuts, even for RFK's ouster.
My response: the cuts are coming anyway and we should try to do something positive with this moment
This last point is even more important because, the White House is already threatening to weaponize the shutdown with more RIFs, which would be really, really bad. So, we need a way out of this...
29.09.2025 15:58 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For their part, Democrats would get something the country needs immediately: the removal of a dangerously unqualified cabinet official.
Plus Dems will avoid being being blamed for a shutdown...
It's a win-win (or an "everybody loses something") situation.
Republicans would get something they already want (spending reductions). (And also, whether they realize it or not, RFK is a liability to them.)
Instead of only playing defense against budget cuts, Democrats would be putting a specific demand on the table that helps everyone.
29.09.2025 15:58 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Democrats should offer to support *some* of those cuts (that they would otherwise reject) in exchange for one clear concession:
Dismiss RFK Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services, or accept his immediate resignation.
The appropriations process has already produced House and Senate markups with significant proposed cuts.
Normally, Democrats would oppose these reductions outright, but this moment calls for an unusual move.
Democrats should use the impending government shutdown to demand Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.βs resignation.
This is the best opportunity they are likely to have.

20.09.2025 21:59 β π 17 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0This latest action is yet another angle in the administration's ongoing attack not only on our public health infrastructure, but on the mission-critical work carried out by CDC employees themselves.
20.09.2025 21:59 β π 16 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0Many, if not most, of the removed websites have obvious tie-ins to topics known to be disfavored by the Trump administration, including:
-the care of LGBTQ+ people
-health equity issues related to a variety of diseases or disabilities
-STIs and related educational resources.
In some cases, agency staffers have been specifically instructed to remove websites.
Others were discovered by employees in the course of their work.
The complete list of censored CDC websites, however, is anything but randomβ¦
22 websites have been removed so far:

BREAKING NEWS over in Inside Medicine:
Censorship at the CDC. Again.
Two dozen websites were removed, including resources for health equity, disability, and LGBTQ+ care.

They were so confused that they had to re-vote this morning. "No" meant "yes."
This is the rigor in our national vaccine advisory group under RFK Jr.
