When I was a teenager, the idea of a "video game composer" didn't really exist, and I didn't have the guts to pursue composition professionally, so I became a music educator. Now, I'm trying to make up for lost time. :)

Last night, I finished composing the final track of "Stellar Saga", an album that I'm producing with video game composer and collaborator @hydr0gene.bsky.social. It's a throwback to the Sega Genesis, its JRPGs and their soundtracks. Thanks to @smithygames.bsky.social for the gorgeous album cover!

This neat little space game, "Super Cosmolite", just came out and simulate space flight while avoiding asteroids. The game dev made excellent use of my sci-fi chiptunes. Playing the game is a fun way to listen to them too! baffledengineer.itch.io/super-cosmol...

It was the very first vgm book that I read and was foundational to my understanding of the work and career of a vgm composer. Also, a very interesting read.

The Cambridge Companion to Video Game Music was a very interesting read and introduced me to a whole lot of academic concepts used in the study of video game music. It's definitely for the scholar and the brave!

I didn't start it yet. It's seen through the lens of ludomusicology, a field of study in academia. I've read some books and essays from ludomusicology and it's actually quite interesting. I'm finishing Pixel Soundtracks (www.amazon.ca/Pixel-Soundt...), and that's a blast! I highly recommend it.
