Even during a shutdown, TSA officers & air traffic controllers are showing up without pay to keep our airports running. While I delivered them donuts, I checked in with travelers to make sure they knew they were visiting a "war zone.”
 
It's clear Portland is not a military target. It's home.

We cannot rest. The President is abusing his power, attempting to militarize our cities. The power of the people must remain greater than the people in power. We need to show up in peaceful protest across this nation. Stay Loud!

Important update! Judge Karin Immergut just issued a broader temporary restraining order that precludes any National Guard troops from being in Oregon for 14 days.

Portlanders know who we are. We take care of one another, we stay peaceful, and we will not let Trump’s chaos define our city.

My message remains the same: stay calm and do not take the bait. I urge everyone to avoid protesting at the SW Macadam ICE facility while Trump continues to use violent tactics against civilians in an attempt to paint Portland as a war zone.

2.) Now, he’s attempting to mobilize the California National Guard to Portland to circumvent yesterday’s ruling that blocked him from deploying the Oregon National Guard. It is just another attempt to militarize our cities to stoke violence.

Checking in with a few updates:

1.) Yesterday, Trump’s federal agents brutalized peaceful demonstrators at the SW Macadam ICE facility. It is egregious and a betrayal of American values. He is deliberately trying to provoke violence to tell a story about our city that is not based in reality.

I encourage everyone to continue exercising their right to peaceful protest, but for your safety, to do so away from the ICE building in SW Portland.

I am grateful today a judge granted a restraining order to block the National Guard from being deployed in Portland.

But Trump’s lawless provocation will continue. Our response is simple: stay calm and do not take the bait.
