Re-Releasing Older Films Reminds Us Why the Movies Are Worth Saving
Big and small movie exhibitors tell Consequence why they're excited about the possibilities of revival screenings and re-releases.
Another article putting a spotlight on the Repertory revival happening at theatres across the country. Also worth noting that most of the titles referenced in the article are from Universal... consequence.net/2025/05/movi...

The L.A. video store that has become a retro-cool attraction
Vidiots, a Los Angeles movie rental landmark, carries more than 70,000 titles and holds daily screenings to boost L.A.’s film-loving community.
More coverage of LA's repertory film revival... Vidiots is one of the epi-centers of this incredible moment happening in LA (and elsewhere). (I'll also take small credit for getting Film Forum's Bruce Goldstein there in time for a quote)

I wonder if the "Freebird" decline coincides with Built To Spill doing a sincere 20min+ cover circa-2000... That version was notable enough at that time that during a Beulah show at the Bowery Ballroom someone yelled out "Freebird" and the reply from Beulah was "Nope - Built To Spill owns that now."

Years Later, Play It As It Lays Is Back on the Screen
Frank Perry’s film of Joan Didion’s novel is a bleak and beautifully stylized look at Hollywood despair.
One of my proudest career achievements is helping get PLAY IT AS IT LAYS restored. See it at Film Forum this week. Coming to more theatres soon. Can't wait to share it with more movie-going audiences in 2025. www.vulture.com/article/revi...
