It’s unlikely that I’ll have time to watch any more classics between now and the New Year, so here’s an early edition of my annual New to Me list. (And yes, it’s almost unforgivable how long I went without seeing a couple of these.)

Every significant liberal and/or progressive position for the last forty or fifty years, basically.

The Zohran press conference is your regular reminder that the entire administration folds like tissue paper at the slightest hint of confidence and conviction, and thus the fact that national democrats are playing a game of capitulation and weakness is exactly why they're all getting away with it

The first two movies I was ever employed on, full-time, were Fred Olen Ray spectaculars. I was assisting the editor, Bill Shaffer, just after he had done HCH. He knew even then that it was a classic in the making.

If I were even remotely afraid of embarrassment, I wouldn't do half of the stupid shit that I do, and none of the most fun stuff.

I think if you didn't know what the source material was, you might be 3/4 of the way through the movie before you even suspected Vineland might be in the mix. I say that as someone who's read the book at least four times (and seen the movie once). I love both, but they're very different.

As others have said, it's an adaptation so loose as to be barely recognizable, but DL's closest analogue in the movie is DeAndre, played by Regina Hall.

Demascus | Official Trailer | Tubi Original Limited Series YouTube video by Tubi

It's likely you've heard me mention DEMASCUS, a show I edited (and loved!) before it was shelved by its original network and lived in agonizing limbo for two years... until now, because the trailer just dropped!

This is such a great track. Always wished he'd caught on a bit more.

Nope. I was on for about a year with the first crew, before Uni sent in their team.

I saw a few episodes of this at SXSW & it was *incredible*. Just been sadly thinking about how I'd never see the rest ever since. Can't wait to watch! 💞

It's an ingenious, comedic sci-fi centered around questions of Black male identity, written by playwright Tearrance Chisholm.

I urge everyone to keep your eyes open for DEMASCUS next month, and don't worry, I'll be back to remind you.

Tubi Rescues ‘Demascus’: Sci-Fi Comedy Series To Launch On Free Streamer Two Years After Being Pulled By AMC Tubi rescues Demascus two years after AMC Networks canceled the show from Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm and Better Call Saul exec producer Mark Johnson.

Two years ago, I was crestfallen when a show I was very proud to have been part of, DEMASCUS, was shelved by the network — even though it was complete and it was awesome.

Well, our producers' perseverance has paid off and the series will premiere on Tubi next month!

It was the wine or maybe food poisoning, because RUBBER is awesome and the guy picked it, so he's got something going for him.

We just watched Part 1 yesterday; can't wait to finish it. The surprise for me was how much he had actually done before going all in on avant-standup, including some legit queer indie cinema.
