Found this while playing with whosthere, a nice little TUI tool that scans your LAN using mDNS, SSDP and ARP cache. Helped me realize my network situation was completely broken. github.com/ramonvermeul...

Ran a network scan from my NYC apartment. Found 300+ devices. Turns out my building's ISP (shh) put everyone on a shared /21 with ZERO client isolation. I can literally curl my neighbor's dev server, AirPlay, Sonos, etc. Hello arpspoof? How tf is this even possible. #security101

PostgreSQL isn’t just a database; it’s a platform. We can build data-driven applications right at the core within PostgreSQL itself. Here, embeddings and RAG. github.com/timescale/pgai

The Strange Kafka World of the EU AI Act The regulation needs repealing

I'm European. I support regulations that protect us without holding back innovation. It's about finding a balance that lets us take risks because global progress is inevitable... but, we may need AI to help us keep up with the right AI regulations. ♾️

"Google does not use GCP internally!" -> What are they using internally? Only custom-built systems tailored to their scale?

I'm really excited about KIP-932 (Queues for Kafka) and its potential for the AI world. This will enable worker architectures to index unstructured documents at scale to feed LLMs. Inference costs keep decreasing with lower latency and more specialized models: SLMs will be at the core of streaming.

Who is writing external documentation in your company? Dedicated tech writers? Product? CS? Have you found the right combination for everybody to be happy and efficient?

I find this area tough to nail. Everyone says "it's a collaborative thing" but you always need a driver to own the thing. 🚔

Things like apache/kafka-native feels so nice. It must’ve been a journey to get there, its massive test suite probably helps tremendously to detect and link everything.

Now: It's not an Apache project but where is the lightweight Schema Registry image? (not the 1.7GB joke)

Why #ApacheKafka is always late? There are many great articles on tools for monitoring Kafka. Here, I explore other concepts: the existence of multiple lags, defining end-to-end lag, mitigation strategies, Little’s law, lag stabilization, backpressure, and more. sderosiaux.medium.com/why-kafka-is...
