A policy with the right intentions that, sadly on a personal level, will make it much harder for Spanish expats in the UK (like me) to buy our future retirement home before we are ready to move back.

Unfortunately, the passport alone won't do it. You'd also need to be an EU resident before you buy. I am Spanish and, if this goes through, I won't be able to afford to be my retirememt property ahead of time to use for holidays 😟
