β€œICE gets a bigger budget than the Marine Corps” is a simple fact that should be communicated very widely because it clearly expresses how crazy and radical this is

One of my fav sunfish species. Common in floodplain lakes, yet we know very little about their biology.

When leftists declare β€œthe left” as incapable of organising, you’re giving up.

When we repeat the line β€œinfighting is why we don’t win” we gloss over the powers that are against us as well as encouraging our political enemies to keep sowing division between us: which is VERY easy for them to do.

8. Radical Communication: Reject the superficiality and commercialisation of mainstream social media. Use zines, community radio, underground podcasts, and grassroots events to share scientific knowledge. Focus on authentic, engaging and meaningful dialogue that prioritizes substance over style.

7. Empower the Marginalized: Promote diversity and inclusion in science. Amplify the voices of underrepresented groups and ensure that everyone has a seat at the scientific table. Science should be a force for equality and justice.

13.01.2025 08:55 β€” πŸ‘ 33    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

6. Interdisciplinary Anarchy: Break down the silos between scientific disciplines. Encourage collaboration and cross-pollination of ideas to foster innovation. The best ideas often come from unexpected intersections.

5. Eco-Rebellion: Fight for the planet. Advocate for sustainable and ethical scientific practices that respect the environment and all living beings. Science must serve the Earth, not exploit it.

4. Anti-Consumerism: Reject the commercialisation of science. Advocate for open access to scientific knowledge and oppose profit-driven research agendas. Knowledge should be shared freely, not hoarded for profit.

1. Question Authority: Challenge the established norms and question the status quo. Don't accept scientific dogma without critical examination. Be relentless in your pursuit of truth and understanding.

3. Celebrate Failure: Recognise that failure is a vital part of the scientific process. Learn from mistakes, iterate and improve. Each misstep is a stepping stone to success and innovation.

What’s in yesterday's House Continuing Resolution? Major shifts in U.S. health spending you should know about:

HRSA cut by $891 million
NIH CURES Act cut by $280 million
Children & Families Services cut by $40 million

These cuts hit essential services and future innovation. πŸ§΅β¬‡οΈ

Overwintering eastern Monarch butterfly populations nearly doubled in 2025. Monarchs still face many threats, but this is great news! 🌎

If FEMA didn’t exist, could states handle the disaster response alone? FEMA pools national resources to help states quickly manage disasters. Without that federal support, each state would be left to build its own expensive response capabilities.

Without #FEMA, smaller and less wealthy states would likely struggle to respond effectively to disasters. A #publichealth professor looks at why getting rid of FEMA would be a bad idea buff.ly/C6aTRTc (Ming Xie, University of Maryland, Baltimore County) 🌎 #climatesky #hurricanes #LAFires

With #bumblebees the size of the colony is in part determined by the length of the growing season in the region they inhabit.
In regions with shorter forage growing seasons smaller colonies tend to be maintained.

First national analysis finds America's butterflies are disappearing at 'catastrophic' rate America's butterflies are disappearing because of insecticides, climate change and habitat loss, with the number of the winged beauties down 22% since 2000, a new study finds.

Butterfly populations falling on average 1.3% per year in the continental US, with some populations falling by as much as 40%. With 650 recorded species, only 342 were present in enough numbers to calculate trends.

They’re forbidding whole fields of research.

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.
