Something I’ve been thinking about as I read more feminist and womanist Christology. Would love thought on this!

If we shift the narrative of the fall and say that “sin” wasn’t Eve eating the fruit, but Adam blaming Eve for his own inability to communicate (patriarchy) then it makes sense that Jesus embody our savior. If patriarchy is the original sin, salvation must come through a reimagined masculinity.

We have been in the midst of a revival for a while now. It is sometimes called deconstruction.

The legacy of western civilization has always been violence. We should not be surprised that this legacy continues.

Quick thought on "claiming to be an ally". The phrase "I am an ally" is (generally) appropriate and helpful when it is addressed to adversaries of the marginalized community you are allying with. It is generally not appropriate when addressed to members *of* the marginalized community.

Also, I am currently working on a Bible study that does this. Where do I look to find folks publishing these? Help!

In progressive spaces, there are a lot of books written about new approaches of reading the Bible. These are great! But I do not see many Bible studies that put these approaches into practice. If progressives really desire to reclaim scripture and Jesus, we need some practical direction!

I don’t know much…but I do know I am showing my kids how to stand up against injustice.

Something that I have noticed as a woman pastor, and I think is true in most professions where women are taking up space is this fact:

We assume men are qualified. We ask women to prove that they are.

“If the Bible only has the meaning we give it, how are we supposed to know how to be and how to act?”

Beloved, humanity is God’s Image Bearers. We know by being with one another and learning from one another.

So, we hold on to this hope that we are agents of a Kin-dom that looks altogether different.

After the year that was this last week, my hope has been gasping for breath. But in the midst of the inauguration this past Monday, the lectionary reveals a different inauguration. The one where God’s reign has begun with liberation, healing, clarity, and equity.

You know that Christianity has lost its way when folks are quick to defend the people in power and at the same time denounce pastors calling for mercy…

…because complementarian roles are God’s will?

What!?!? You have benefited from women’s liberation! How dare you use that freedom to bind others in a cage!!

One thing that infuriates me is women who have benefited from the liberation of the feminist movement, riding the coat tails of patriarchy to the top, using their privilege and powerful position, to then turn around and tell other women they must submit to their husbands and male leaders…1/2

We cannot embody true humility with out a secure understanding of our own self-worth.

There is a big connection between a theology that over emphasizes Christ’s divinity and giving pastors/leaders all the power.

I am still unpacking the connection. And would love your thoughts.

Today, I told a bit about my story and the story of the community I have served for 20 years. And, this was the first time it didn’t feel heavy in my gut. I could speak the truth with more compassion and grace.

That’s growth, my friends.

Doing some reading to prepare for my next class on CS Lewis…and I had no idea he argued for men to be the tie breaker in disagreements within a household…it makes so much sense now…

I love when I am preparing a sermon and the scriptures surprise me with something new…something I had never considered before.
