Currently 105Β° here, with β€œpoor” air quality. No amusement here either.

I’m more concerned about Moonstruck. Moonstruck is one of two films I caught in an early screening in NYC; we were all coming to it β€œcold,” but you could feel it work its magic. Bit by bit, the audience grew enchanted, until the feeling in the theatre was euphoric. (Breaking Away was the other.)

Wonderful film, sadly chopped to bits by the Hays Office.

She was indeed. I mention in my Top 10 essay that we remember a lot of episodes being about the other characters screwing things up, and Jennifer setting things right. There were actually very few episodes like that, but Anderson was such a strong, calm presence, we *think* there were. 😊

Great episode. She tells him, with gratitude, β€œSometimes you really have a way with words,” and he replies, β€œHey, I’m in sales.” πŸ˜…

Loni Anderson as Jennifer Marlowe.

RIP to the luminous Loni Anderson. Jennifer Marlowe taught us how to navigate lunacy with intelligence, wit and class. My WKRP top 10 is full of Jennifer eps: thatsallsiknow.blogspot.com/2021/06/the-.... And I wrote about the great β€œJennifer and the Will”: thatsallsiknow.blogspot.com/2015/12/blak...

So apparently my new e-book about forgotten film director William Dieterle isn’t doing too terribly. Yay! If you love #OldHollywood, I hope you’ll take a look. At Amazon/Kindle for just $3.99. And thanks to all who’ve written me with such kind support; it means a lot. 😊 www.amazon.com/dp/B0FK127P37/

That’s funny: colorizing Bewitched annoys the crap out of me. πŸ˜… I guess it’s because Danny Arnold & Bernard Slade, in S1 & 2, were so taking their cue from the great screwball couplings of the β€˜30s, not to mention exploring issues of prejudice and equal rights. It feels so cheapened in fake color. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Thanks so much, Alex. During the 30s & 40s, he was considered one of the top directors in Hollywood, but for a number of reasons, his name faded into obscurity. His films, though, remain as sublime as ever. I’ve never taken on a writing project this ambitious, but I figured, someone has to do it.πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜Š

Thanks so much, Kevin! I first became entranced by Dieterle when I was doing a noir binge some 20 years ago, and saw Loretta Young in The Accused and Bill Holden in The Turning Point. From that point on, I dug up all the Dieterle I could find. So I feel like this book has been a long time coming. πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

Thanks, John! I thought of you as I was posting the news today. As I was expanding my essay into a book, I felt it needed a more personal ending. And I wound up talking about the showing of β€˜Paid in Full’ in Palm Springs last May. Dieterle back on the big screen: it was a perfect conclusion. 😊

Gregory then and Gregory now.

Three years ago today, we adopted a shy 3 lb. cavapoo, whom we named Gregory. Today he’s a 12 lb. bundle of energy who’s brought so much joy to our lives. 😊❀️🐢

It’s crazy to think this is Season 17. Philip & I really enjoyed the first eight seasons or so, and then it started to decline. We have found the last few seasons unbearable. Honestly, I can’t imagine picking up the show now and enjoying it. I would try the first few seasons and see what you think.😊

I was so afraid that Czerny would slide around too much on those hardwood floors that we laid down a runner that ran the length of the RV. Still, he absolutely hated that trip – it’s like he knew all the terrible things that were about to happen. πŸ˜…

Five years ago today, we began our move from Fort Lauderdale to Palm Springs in a rented RV that turned into the ride from hell. Day 2, the shower broke. Day 3, flat tire. Day 4, the RV completely broke down and we were stranded on a stretch of highway 30 miles east of Tucumcari, NM. What a trip! πŸ˜…
