‘You Were Never Lovelier’ is quite good (gorgeous score by Kern and Mercer), and I’m pretty sure I saw it on the schedule for this month. 🙏

I haven’t seen it in 50 years, but I hope I won’t be spoiling things when I say that the tagline is a wee bit hyperbolic. 😅 However, I remember enjoying it – the score is superb, for starters – and it was the Columbia loan-out that made Kelly a star, when MGM couldn’t figure out what to do with him.

Yes! As you say, he stays a dick for an awfully long time – and so even though you figure he’s going to have an eventual change of heart, he makes it seem like there isn’t enough time left to make it convincing. And then he *does* make it convincing. A very impressive piece of acting, I thought.

I’m embarrassed to say, I don’t know his work as well as I should. I think I’ve seen a half-dozen of his films, but this movie made me think that after I finish Ann Harding, Morris should be my next binge. FYI, Philip is an actor, and much tougher on actors than I am; he thought he was sensational.

Remember the Night is one of our holiday staples, as is Bachelor Mother and – for reasons I can’t explain, since there’s nothing holiday-ish about it – The Lady Vanishes. (Maybe it’s the snow. 🤷‍♂️) I’ve been wanting to see It Happened on 5th Avenue, and was delighted to see that TCM is showing it. 😊

And John, I don’t know if you saw my post today, but I watched Repeat Performance yesterday. Thank you for another sterling recommendation. 😊

Loved it. Suspenseful and atmospheric, full of great supporting characters – and Agnes Moorehead’s exit was sensational. And you were so right about the ending – it’s so nice to see a film like this not shy away from a satisfying conclusion. 😊

It was superb – and Morris was extraordinary. 😊
