Me: I gotta get in shape. I gotta eat better. I gotta start thinking about the future again

Also me: I need to cultivate a lifestyle that’s like the guy from Dennehy except I ride a bike

A very classy bathroom. The walls are a green-tinged gold with dark green wood paneling. A mint green tub is visible. A little shelf holds an orchid and various jars and baskets of bath bombs. Two framed prints of herons are on the wall. There's a very fancy gold and green chandelier on the ceiling

Getting close!! This side just needs cleaned up and the little bin I got for extra TP is still getting painted in the garage.

Statistical Thinking

Nice article. Relating to my blog fharrell.com, having it on a static web site server netlify.com, having the master HTML structures backed up in various ways, plus having all the Quarto source files in github.com/harrelfe/st/ for anyone to resurrect gives me some comfort.

The only blog post that I wrote and still sometimes want to share is lost.

I once managed to find it on the internet archive, but never took down the details. And now I can't remember enough details to search for it.

That moment when you agree to review a paper because the abstract is πŸ”₯ then you download the manuscript and the supplementary materials are 85 pages long 😭.
And it's free labour.

Part of the problem (imo) is that most academic scientists hang out together but not with the rest of the industry. So when academic scientists talk about knowledge gaps, for them it's the gaps in literature rather than the policy and practice gaps.

A common reason I've heard, myself included, for getting into biostatistics/medical research is to "do something meaningful"

But there's an entire layer missing in the article about being in a "meaningful" field where a lot of the research is completely and utterly meaningless

And sometimes we do something even more valuable: prevent certain futile research projects from being undertaken.

Now, Cortical Labs is ready to scale up the operation. As Bloomberg reports, the company says it’s working on β€œbiological data centers” in Melbourne, Australia, and Singapore. Simply put, instead of relying on Nvidia chips like AI companies, Cortical Labs is planning to outfit its futuristic facilities with racks of CL1 biological computers, powered by many more human brain cells, instead.

The company refers to this approach as β€œwetware,” an unsettling new take on software and hardware terminology. Simply put, the computers send electrical signals to neurons derived from human blood stem cells. The chips embedded within record those neurons’ responses as the output.

One of our favorite Rebori-Miller collaborations, too! The bas relief over the front door depicting the Evangelists are Miller's designs, and so are some of the smaller rose and arch stained glass windows on the front facade. The mosaic art is of unknown authorship but could be Miller-influenced.
