In this day and age, supporting games that actually value artists is extremely important.

I'm not saying this is a golden rule, but I do have seen it plenty to be honest.

I think some roles (like design, or engineering) do actually change quite a lot when moving from one extreme to the other.

For example, its very common for AAA designers to not work too much in the engine (or at all) whilst that would be usually a very bad call in an indie project.
