The combination of machismo, stupidity, and outright bloodlust, that finds statements like this funny or impressive is horrifying to me. The Trump cult and all his screening viziers genuinely do not seem to me people one could share a civilised society with.

They don't say "illegally" anywhere.
This is a maliciously misleading framing. These are not "fees" or "payments" they are "extortions" or "bribes" and it is OUTFUCKINGRAGEOUS that they are being reported like this.

This is a good lesson for journalists: Use plain language to state true things clearly.
