I was just out in Natick having an early dinner with some friends and to commemorate being back on suburban ground, I did something I haven’t done in years: got pulled over.

If I’m remembering the story right, Grant died while taking a nap in advance of a party at which he was going to propose to his gf

And the first comeback record was made with Sleater Kinney! Because Janet and Corin and Carrie knew how cool these guys were.

The Go Betweens are one of my favorite bands but their basic narrative breaks my heart: two Aussies, Robert and Grant, anchor a band that makes one great lp after another in the ‘80s. They go their separate ways but reunite in 2000 to make three more great albums.

Just had to walk a few blocks through the misty rain to get home, but I had my favorite Grant McLennan song in my earbuds so at least I got to be the main character of that very wistful movie scene.

That’s a great summary. Also once in the mid-‘80s I walked by her on the street in Manhattan and I am so proud to report that I just gave her a half nod and said “S’up Yoko?”
