The Trauma Economy
What It Costs to Be a Public Example of Pain
Something I think about a lot, as a culture worker and an editorial gatekeeper - how to ensure others donโt fall into the same trap doors as I have. Looking forward to this book: open.substack.com/pub/darrenmc...

Amazon rainforest cut down to build highway for COP climate summit
The infrastructure required to host climate talks in Belรฉm is undermining the cause, campaigners say.
On top of total capture of COP by the fossil fuel industry, we now have "Amazon forest felled to build road for climate summit."
At what point do we acknowledge what is now plainly obvious: that this is not the solution, but a big part of the problem, a coverup for BAU?

Here's a reminder to not take yourself too seriously. Our egos get in the way too much of the time. This is obvious stuff, but it makes sense to reflect on it occasionally.

Itโs a pair of thru hikers, yes. An impressive undertaking & looks stunning. The โi/weโ was interesting; can we assume to speak for anyone except ourselves in 2025? I donโt think so. To give voice one needs to really give that space over in quotes, or signpost a conversation in the text.
