The excitement is not good for my Parkinson's, so I tell myself it's just a game, the result is not important, I just want to watch good rugby. This does not of course work. Here's to a victorious northern hemisphere. And good rugby.

Very pleased to report that my wood engraving "Oak" has been selected for the 88th annual exhibition of the Society of Wood Engravers. The exhibition will tour the UK in 2026, starting at the Bankside Gallery, London in February.

Work in progress, watercolour autumn, for my sister. 80x60cm.
The paintbrush on the ceramic rest and the leaf to the right of them are real, given away by their shadows. Painted leaves will all have painted shadows to pop them out of the paper and bring them to life, or in this case, senescence.

Off to the www.zillahbellgallery.co.uk tomorrow for the preview of the Society of Wood Engravers Exhibition and to deliver a few prints for the Winter Exhibition that opens in December.

Thanks for the offer! You are right - in principle, I have the tools, but in practise my GIS and R skills have atrophied. I think I like the idea more than the reality. Maybe one day I will be curious enough to do the hard hours. It is aways nice to watch you and others at the art/science interface.

The fungus often feeds on trees already weak. Your rowan sounds to be in sturdy middle life and able to deal with a little more of life's diversity. I speak as an ecologist, an arborist may take a different view. May the berries bring you fieldfares and redwings this autumn. And keep witches away.

Today I became an elected member of the Society of Wood Engravers, a reminder of the imminent entry deadline for the 2026 annual exhibition. Shown, engravings selected by SWE in 2023-5 and a probable entry for 2026. Good news in hard times.
