Been reading about the rise of Nazism. So many entities - businesses, right-wing parties, trade unions - struck deals with Hitler after he became chancellor, where he promised to preserve elements of the old system. Then months later he invariably broke them and jailed or killed those people.

So, is this a gift to Trump or to The President? I assume it would be illegal (as if that matters) for him to keep it after leaving office.

Ooh. That sounds fantastic. When Freud came to England and met Virginia Woolf, he gave her a narcissus.

The incentives are even worse than that. Until fairly recently, the expected MINIMUM word count was around 20,000 words. Any less and law reviews wouldn’t really take it seriously, and if it was published it didn’t β€œcount” as much for internal metrics and tenure as a β€œreal” or β€œfull” article.

Riley manages to be both super-bland and super-toxic at the same time. The worst of both worlds.

I do still wish it were clearer what’s being said by whom. Garber said it to one faculty member, according to β€œthe three faculty members familiar with the conversation.” So, he said it to one, during a conversation with three? Or to two, because he is also a faculty member?

That sounds fascinating! Mine was about Yeats, Eliot, Woolf, and Wyndham Lewisβ€”their relationships to psychoanalysis, and their depictions of consciousness/desire.

The bulk of the argument in the SFFA v. Harvard anti-affirmative action case (which the anti–affirmative-action side won) was that affirmative action was unfair to Asian Americans. The (ostensible) goal was *increase* their Harvard.

Freud is sometimes referred to as the father of Psychology.
While not everyone may like or agree with his ideas, the process of trying to find 'better' ideas than some of his has triggered a huge amount of research within psychology.

[I love this because it's basically just saying "his ideas were so crazy and awful that it motivated people to try and find any other explanation just o prove him wrong" like, so much research was done with the basis of "I fucking hate Freud" what a mood]

The β€œdeal” that Brown made with the Trump admin is much more extreme than is being reported. It includes government oversight of course evaluations and no barrier to government interference in faculty hiring.

I don't think most Americans realize how hard tariffs are about to hit them. The combination of 1) escalating tariffs, 2) companies slowly passing the cost to consumers, and 3) the repeal of the de minimis exemption in the Big Beautiful Bill, a lot stuff will be more expensive in 2027.
