I gave this a go last night. I get the complaints; it doesn't feel like a Star Trek movie. I'm alright with that, though. We have a lot of Star Trek movies already. It borrows a lot in its world-building, with little nods to other sci-fi shows here and there. It was fun if a bit disposable.
At least in 2016 companies seemed to hold the line. These days they’ve just fallen in line.
