As someone who's moved from Video Games, to working in music copyright, the company I work for is owned by PRS, today's gaming news is kind of interesting to me.

Also songwriting copyright is weird, and kind of hard to explain to people outside the industry.

In practise it would be that Valve would purchase a blanket licence from PRS to use works written by PRS affiliated writers (in practise any song with at least one UK writer) and PRS would distribute that to their members, ideally based on how often games with their songs were downloaded.

Saw on the train today, Fukushima prefecture is doing a tourism campaign in partnership with Square-Enix, promoting Final Fantasy-like landscapes & touristic spots.

Cute stuff, I only found the 1st one in good quality.

What a show that was from @evewrestling.bsky.social not sure any UK show I see will top that.

It's now a year since I left the games industry, well was made redundant. Still feels kind of strange, and I do miss it some times, but I'm very happy with my new job, and the music industry is a pretty interesting place too. Also it's nice to feel like I'm helping artists.

Match graphic announcing Safire Reed vs AZM (pronounced AZUMI) - bith of whom seem to really like illuminated style green and pink colours going by their gear here. Maybe they have the same gear maker as well as both really liking to wrestle particularly fast?

Anyway - this will be a bloody good match !

watercolour of a battle between british and french sailing ships.

1804. Oceans are now Battlefields.

In the South China Sea a British convoy worth almost £1bn today is spotted by the French.

It should be a massacre.

Instead, Commodore Nathanial Dance is about to defeat a French battle squadron using some paint and the most overplayed hand in #navalHistory. /1 🧵

Honestly the only thing that makes Japan a bit pricy for me is the cost of getting there from the UK. My first trip there I was kind of shocked how cheap it was, and it's only got cheaper since 2017.

Just saw a Japanese travel YouTuber starting a video with "so Japan's not a budget travel destination", and… what?!

As a person earning in any Western currency, Japan is *incredibly* inexpensive if you want and need it to be. Tokyo is the cheapest international city I visit regularly.

It's been a long time since I've seen Korpiklaani and I'm not as into them and I used to be, but Korpiklaani are always an absolute blast live, so much fun.

Finntroll are probably the band I've been looking forward to most, Trollhammeren is a great live song and Jaktens Tid is one of my favourite folk metal songs.

Heidevolk are probably the most traditional folk metal band so far, and my favourite so far as well. Fantastic show, next up are Finntroll and Korpiklaani the two I came to see.

Trollfest were one of the weirder metal bands I've come across. Definitely the first flamingo themed one. Fun at first, but kinda felt like I'd had enough by the end of the set.

At Heidenfest for a night of #folkmetal first band were The Dread Crew of Oddwood which were fun. Maybe not a band I'd go out of my way to see, but a pretty good support band

Going to Heidenfest in Islington tonight. I haven't been in years, because Tuesday gigs always clash with my Japanese classes, but Finntroll and Korpiklaani together were a bit too good not to go.

I hang out with so many game devs and marketeers that I always (mistakenly) assume this is common knowledge. If you want to do a gamedev a gigantic favor that costs you literally nothing but 3min of your time, write them a Steam review. ESPECIALLY if they have less than 500 or so.

Had my first Japanese class in ages tonight, while I didn't do particularly well on the grammar, my speaking wasn't rusty. I managed to get quite a bit of speaking practise in on my trip to Japan.

Back home in England now, the trip to Japan was incredible. Visited some beautiful places, ate delicious food, saw some great shows, and went to my first Livehouse in Japan. Best of all, I caught up with some old friends and made some new ones.
