saw Tortoise right before the first album. seemed like it wanted to be this pretty, polished sound, but there was an awkwardness & rough edges to everything the friction of which gave them an exciting charm saw them again a year-ish later, all of that had been polished away, completely lost interest

It was actually a .wav file on a data disc, not an audio CD. The file wouldn't copy, it just threw up errors, but I was able to get VLC to play it (at least partially) so I just captured that playback

as long as I'm on a tangent of EKG discs, I believe this was the first album of theirs, which I released as a 3" CD-r on Crank Satori way back in 2001

we were doing a lot of primitive circa '00 granular and maybe some cd skiping on it anyway, so the rot-glitching sort works.. might mess around with it, lean into the errors even more, see what I can make... so maybe an ooof-yay(?) we shall see...
the bigger oof is I also found a slightly disc-rotted hour long CD of Dan Burke (Illusion of Safety) and I as a duo live on the Something Else radio program from November of 2000.. couldn't get it to rip, but I managed a somewhat glitchy loopback recording of 44 minutes or so before it gave up
