That feeling when a stream of an unannounced album you’ve been highly anticipating lands in your inbox as you leave work to get your kid so you’ve got some tunes to listen to for the drive!
I got a band’s vinyl in the mail to check out for inclusion in the column. That’s few and far between these days, but oh so awesome when it happens. Getting mail is fun.
Love this so much!
I haven't done a ska/wrestling mashup in a while but you know what they say, "Ska and Pro Wrestling are the only legitimate forms of art".
Benny from @theboydetective.bsky.social as Undertaker makes the most sense here. With @skapunkotherjunk.bsky.social being the publicity liaison/manager. #ska

Every now and then an album you don’t expect shows up in your inbox and you’re treated to a gem. Wish I could talk about it right now. D’oh!
Thanks for the recon!
Let me know what you think!
I just signed up for UpScrolled so that I can at least reserve my username.
My January @skapunkotherjunk.bsky.social column is live on @beardedgmusic.bsky.social now. Lots of good stuff to discover!

Here’s this month’s column. You should read it and also share it.

It’s this exact sentiment that helped me push through.
Just finished writing my January column. I think it’s permanently moving to the last Tuesday of the month. With everything going on in the country, hard to stay motivated to write about music, but I got it done.
The RBF horn section.
I usually put Fishbone in the ska section.
They’re one of the bands in question. Their new single is 100% a punk song.
Then, also wondering about Goldfinger … there are ska songs and punk songs on their new album.
If a band is known mainly as a ska or ska punk band, but they put out a song that has zero ska, should it go in the “ska” or “punk” section of my column?
If you knew someone (me) who wanted to learn guitar, but didn’t have the finances for formal lessons, where would you point me? Any top of the line YouTube courses for instance?
Here’s the link to the episode of @ontheupbeatska.bsky.social I was on! Ska!

I’m going to be on the @ontheupbeatska.bsky.social podcast this week!!!
Sometimes I wonder if we’ll ever see a world where Twiztid and ICP reconcile and start making music and playing shows together again.
Time flies. 😂
I think it’s 32 this year. Haha. Heavy Petting Zoo is 30 though.
Normally, I’d agree, but there are so many bands I’ve discovered in my 40s that are epic.
In looking at all the albums that turn 30 this year, it’s pretty obvious to me that the origin of my current musical tastes happened in 1996.
One thing I’d like to do in 2026 is finally learn how to play guitar.
It's time! The final show of the year when we're gonna give all of our favorite releases of 2025 their due praise.
And with a guest co-host in tow! Everyone come say hi to @almightydanish.bsky.social in the chat tomorrow night (12/18, 7p MST)
