Reading this. Enjoying it. 'The Rastafarians' by Leonard E. Barrett Sr. My earliest memories of music are of reggae, so Rastafari has always been present in my consciousness. I'm not religious, so it's never held anything for me in that regard, but as a music of resistance not even punk beats it.
This week on Live Like the World is Dying, Inmn and and Ash talk about communes, what they are, some historical background on them, and some thoughts on relating to them now.

I've sworn off social media and only check my Bluesky and Mastodon every couple of weeks or so. It's been lovely. Getting a lot of reading done. Like this Dan Price book which is a load of rambling from a guy who thinks he's cracked it but really lives off the detritus and kindness of others.
Finding myself spending less time scrolling as the grim and disquieting thought "is this AI?" undermines my sense of learning about what's going on, and even enjoyment of memes. I see something I might once have reposted and instead just log off.
So, actually, thanks for that, AI slopmongers.
Mussolini was captured by Anti-Fascists, shot and his body was brought back to be hung from his feet in the public square.
They're going to keep shooting nurses and poets, parents and neighbors dead in the streets, and every single time they do it they will concoct a lie to justify what they've done.
The fact that people know this, and still stand up to them, scares them absolutely shitless.
What the f*CK is @icegov.bsky.social doing here? Time to abandon ship.
Saturday morning tings.
wikipedia turns 25 today! the last unenshittified major website! backbone of online info! triumph of humanity! powered by urge of unpaid randos to correct each other! somehow mostly reliable! "good thing wikipedia works in practice, because it sure doesn't work in theory" - old wiki adage
At some point in his histories of revolutions @mikeduncan.bsky.social said something that has stuck with me ever since.
"Yesterday's civilians become tomorrow's insurgents after today's atrocity."
Currently reading 'Pagan Anarchism' by @csthompson.bsky.social and enjoying it more than I thought I might, on account of its brevity and I being an atheist.
fighting the oppressor begins at home and school!
Roslyn Commons now has a Little Free Library with space for books and seed. A massive mihi to my partner, K, for all the mahi she put into making it. It's now at its home and look how happy the crew is! #littlefreelibrary
The 10 IRA and INLA hunger strikers who died in 1981 survived for between 46 and 73 days. These Palestine Action hunger strikers in the UK have been on strike for 45, 59, and 66 days.
Patience is rewarded. Pātaka Kupu is out-of-print and if it ever comes up online, copies go for over $100. Jan 7th and I've already had my best score of 2026.
Hate to say it, but we all have a new responsibility. I don't like it any better than you do. We have to make a good faith effort to find out if videos or images are real before we share, and delete if we find out after the fact that we shared AI.
It sucks.
I haven't seen it explicitly yet, but I anticipate the MLs and other authoritarian socialists rave about Maduro the same way they did Gaddafi, Assad, Erdogan, etc.
Just needs some kind of artwork on the gable/eave and then it'll go to the community garden at Roslyn Commons at this Saturday's working bee. #littlefreelibrary
Got a reality check from my Venezuelan cousin and took down a lot of what I posted. Right now, a lot of Venezuelans want a moment to celebrate even if the means were fucked and the future isn’t necessarily good. It’s been so bad there for so long.
Journalists speak on the repression of & resistance of the Mazateca community to a power grab in Eloxochitlán de Flores Magón in Oaxaca, Mexico beginning in December 2014, plus the related case of #MiguelPeralta and the recent death of #YorchEsquivel.

Reminder to pre-order 200, or five, or one copy of The Misfits - A Sea Monster Conundrum. Be the first to find out about the ghost sighting, sea monsters, awkward bake sale, and a devious billionaire criminal named Odious!

WIP WIP WIP so close now! #littlefreelibrary
If you have the chance to read this book, you should. It's really fuckin' good. The concluding essay, 'Martyr Culture' by Sara Blum, is moving. There are lessons here that should be absorbed and utilised. @tangledwilderness.bsky.social
WIP update. Corrugated iron roof and painted. Needs a door now. #freelittlelibrary
Hell yeah.
Came here to say RIP Anton.
WIP - Free Little Library for a community garden. Maybe bit of pātaka kai, seed library, trad library, sky's the limit!
I know we're sposed to cancel Chomsky, but this is ace. Fave chapters were about the OWS Library and student loan debt. Chomsky puts me to sleep, but bite-sized illustrated pieces really work in translating Chomsky's ideas.
