True Lies (1994) dir. James Cameron 🎬
Action comedy classic. Arnie does Bond. Jamie Lee Curtis elevates the whole affair, but doesn't she always? Bill Paxton is bloody hilarious. Tia Carrere and Art Malik play the perfect baddies. Cameron at the height of his powers.

#BehindTheScenes: Rob Reiner immortalising star-crossed lovers on the set of 1987's 'The Princess Bride' with Cary Elwes and Robin Wright.
Just an incredible unbroken run of superb comedies, dramas & thrillers from right out of the gates:
This is Spinal Tap
The Sure Thing
Stand by Me
The Princess Bride
When Harry Met Sally…
Misery
A Few Good Men
Some of my happiest times as a teacher were showing Stand By Me to my Yr11 classes during their last 2 lessons with me.
I did it for decades and each class loved watching it.
Rob Reiner perfectly captured that wistful tone about childhood’s end as seen here:

They look like Dick Tracy villains
cracking up thinking about Norm Macdonald’s impression of Quentin Tarantino
we are the world but its everybody telling quentin tarantino to shut the fuck up
I don't know why Paul Dano was the thing that finally made people turn on Quentin Tarantino, but I'll take it. Separate from being a shitty person, Tarantino is the most overrated director in the history of cinema.

Ironic really, that Tarantino keeps putting his foot in his mouth

RIP Adam Greenberg
He was the superb cinematographer who shot Near Dark (watch it!), Terminator 2: Judgment Day and, of course, The Terminator, which means he’s responsible for one of my favourite shots in cinema that also coined a new genre for its film:

#WhatAView: 'Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga' (2024), cinematography by Simon Duggan.
RIP Claudia Cardinale
The beating heart of Once Upon a Time in the West. This scene in which she beautifully plays off against Jason Robards & Charles Bronson is just exquisite.
Those wonderfully expressive eyes.

My god, Redford last week and now another icon has left the building.
RIP the irreplaceable Claudia Cardinale 🖤🎬

Has anyone ever worn a movie costume better than Robert Redford in his navy pea coat in Three Days of the Condor?

#BehindTheScenes: A mime is a terrible thing to waste. On the set of 1989's 'Batman' with Jack Nicholson and his performance troupe.
There’s a good reason why this is my header on my profile: Lillian Gish as Miss Cooper was how I felt Christians should be: tender and compassionate with children when needed but tough and fearless when confronting evil like Mitchum’s bullshit preacher. Her shotgun and his flick knife say it all.
Best thing I did for my writing career was stopping referring to myself as an “aspiring” writer years ago. There’s something powerful about owning who you are. It’s like the world just opens up for you.
