Imagine sending this email 6 months before the Ferguson protests & keeping one's job as the CEO of a major financial institution for another half-decade+. This feels like a defense of a system & institution that put a guy like Jes Staley in the position to be fired (by hiring and promoting him multiple times in the first place) and banned in 2021 (by him not having been banned well before).

GTA5. I'd never played a GTA game before, I didn't realize that most of the buildings were empty boxes you couldn't go into. The driving sucked. The civilians were unnecessarily aggro (especially for SoCal???). All of this after the fucking AGES it took to install and load it the 1st time.

I liked mine but I also never really used it. I just like the (visual) design (of the limited edition version).

that holds the hands of less-skilled players while letting experts style on enemies with precision. You can get as cuh-razy as DMC, but you're not looking like a chump just because you can't juggle or purposely animation cancel or w/e.

That's not even getting into the depth of those JRPG mechanics.

Kinda? Most of those rely on fighting game-style input/combo mechanics, shunting the management of battle complexity onto the player. KH is the perfection of the Arkham games, or that old Tekken beat 'em up: contextual combo progression

KH-likes require an unusual resource bank (read: very skilled animators and combat designers) that made them less-than ideal for indie devs until very recently, while having an appeal that's likely ju~st niche enough to turn risk-averse publishers off (who have all the money because Boomers).

tl;dr The GFC screwed the generation of would-be developers and investors who would have made them happen. The devs faced cutthroat job market competition and their careers never got off the ground, & the Boomers who control investment capital focused on FPSes and lootboxes, stifling game diversity.
