SHAPE TRANSPORTATION IN SEATTLE: we're recruiting for the Seattle Freight Advisory Board, Pedestrian Advisory Board, and School Traffic Safety Committee. Join us at online open houses on Monday, March 16 (noon-1 PM) or Thursday, March 19 (5-6 PM). Details: sdotblog.seattle.gov/2026/03/03/s....
HEADS UP, SEATTLE: Emergency repairs to the SR 99 First Avenue South Bridge will need to continue through 11:59 p.m. Friday, March 13, after crews found that damage to the steel grid deck is more extensive than inspectors initially thought.
Continue to expect delays in this area.
The Gliders are likely counted as bikes through SDOT's inductive counters, though the type of counter varies a bit between locations. Not all of the counters are able to distinguish between modes.
Bus bulbs (the last picture) also make the bus much faster as it doesn’t have to merge back into traffic after pulling over to the curb
Excellent point.
Thanks to STM funding, we've brought more bus service to more people while investing in safer, more efficient streets and sidewalks for riders: www.seattle.gov/transportati...
While 60% of the Seattle Transit Measure funds more daily transit service, it also invests in building better access to transit.
Here's an example: new bus stop improvements, built in-house by SDOT crews, serving Route 65 in Lake City and Routes 124 and 125 in Delridge.
The first day of steel deck repairs is complete on the SR 99 First Ave S bridge in Seattle.
The bridge remains closed to NB traffic. Expect delays on NB SR 509/SR 99 heading downtown.
Work resumes at daylight on Tuesday, March 10.

HEADS UP: NB SR 99 First Ave S Bridge will close for repairs from 5a Mon (3/9) - 8p Wed (3/11)
A recent inspection found cracks in the steel deck grates. Crews will install steel plates to reinforce the bridge. Drivers should use I-5 or I-405 and plan for heavy regional traffic.
SDOT is hardening the greenway crossing at 83rd and Greenwood today, which will prevent drivers from using the street as a cut through and reduce left-turn conflicts during signal phases.

The historic infrastructure added some unique challenges to this project. We worked closely with the Alliance for Pioneer Square to move this long-planned connection forward.
Right now, crews are upgrading the signal at 1st Ave and Yesler Way to include an all-way-walk phase, making it safer for people walking, biking, and rolling. You’ll start to notice the bike lane installation in the coming weeks.
Something new is coming to one of Seattle’s most historic neighborhoods.
We’re installing a protected bike lane from Occidental Ave S to the waterfront, closing a critical gap in the City Center Bike Network!
Thanks for letting us know, I've forwarded this to our team. What a bummer.

By reconstructing sidewalks and curb ramps to be smooth, even, and ADA-accessible, we make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy Fremont and visit their favorite stores and restaurants.
What do you think of these sidewalk improvements in Fremont?
These before and after photos were taken on N 35th St east of Fremont Ave N as part of the Route 40 project.

Building this missing piece to the city’s bike network wasn’t simple. The historic nature of Pioneer Square and the age of the infrastructure made adding modern bike and signal improvements complicated, requiring careful design and coordination.
This project fills a gap in Seattle’s City Center Bike Network & creates a much-anticipated, safer connection between Pioneer Square, downtown, and the waterfront.
Construction officially began this week with underground work, and more visible changes on the street will follow in the coming weeks.
