The Seattle Streetcar stops at Yesler and Broadway on a sunny Seattle winter day (yes, that exists)

Seattle Streetcar: definitely isn't a car, and it only runs on tracks 🤨

Tap to Pay, technology which is 100% true to its name, is now live on all Streetcars.

No ORCA card, no problem 🎉

The Gliders are likely counted as bikes through SDOT's inductive counters, though the type of counter varies a bit between locations. Not all of the counters are able to distinguish between modes.

Bus bulbs (the last picture) also make the bus much faster as it doesn’t have to merge back into traffic after pulling over to the curb

Seattle Transit Measure (STM) - Transportation | seattle.gov Voter-approved funding to improve public transportation access for all residents, with a priority on people traditionally underserved by government investment

A before and after image of a bus stop in Pinehurst at 30th Ave NE and NE 135th St. Before: an asphalt shoulder with a bus stop sign, but no amenities or sidewalk. After: a new sidewalk with a bench and proper drainage. Before and after photos of a refreshed bus stop curb at 16th Ave SW and SW Trenton St. Before: an old curb with disused driveway slopes and aging pavement. After: new concrete, utility access, repainted "candy cane" stripes mark the bus stop, and refreshed lane markings to make it clear that buses use the bus stop. Before and after of a new "extra wide" bus stop at 16th Ave SW and SW Thistle St. Before: a narrow sidewalk and thin planting strip. After: a very wide bus pad with completely new concrete. Before and after of a new bus stop at 16th Ave SW and SW Kenyon St. Before: a standard sidewalk and thin panting strip. After: a new bus bulbout extends into the former parking lane, with new concrete sidewalks and curb ramps.

While 60% of the Seattle Transit Measure funds more daily transit service, it also invests in building better access to transit.

Here's an example: new bus stop improvements, built in-house by SDOT crews, serving Route 65 in Lake City and Routes 124 and 125 in Delridge.

SDOT is hardening the greenway crossing at 83rd and Greenwood today, which will prevent drivers from using the street as a cut through and reduce left-turn conflicts during signal phases.

The historic infrastructure added some unique challenges to this project. We worked closely with the Alliance for Pioneer Square to move this long-planned connection forward.

Right now, crews are upgrading the signal at 1st Ave and Yesler Way to include an all-way-walk phase, making it safer for people walking, biking, and rolling. You’ll start to notice the bike lane installation in the coming weeks.

A color-coded map of the project area. There is orange color on Fremont Ave N and 35th St with a text box that reads, “Sidewalk, curb ramp, and utility upgrades”. A pink section on 35th St east of Fremont Ave N has a text box that reads, “New bus stop and sidewalk upgrades”. On Fremont Ave N below N 35th St there is a green line on the street with a text box that reads, “New protected bike lane”.

Below the surface are some shiny new changes, too. Crews have added new electrical conduit underneath as part of the new bus stop on N 35th St.

New protected bike lanes are also in the works!

Two photographs of the same sidewalk. The top photograph has text in the corner that says “BEFORE”. The sidewalk has cracks and is uneven. The bottom photograph has text that says “AFTER” and shows a smooth, even sidewalk. Two people walk with a small black dog in the bottom photograph.

What do you think of these sidewalk improvements in Fremont?

These before and after photos were taken on N 35th St east of Fremont Ave N as part of the Route 40 project.

Building this missing piece to the city’s bike network wasn’t simple. The historic nature of Pioneer Square and the age of the infrastructure made adding modern bike and signal improvements complicated, requiring careful design and coordination.

A detailed map of Seattle's Center City bike network, showing existing bike routes in solid green, future connections in dashed green, and routes under construction in dotted orange. A zoomed-in inset highlights the waterfront area near Yesler Way, which runs east-west and connects the waterfront (Alaskan Way) to the downtown core. Key streets like 1st Ave, Alaskan Way, and Yesler Way are labeled, along with landmarks such as Seattle Center and Elliott Bay.

This project fills a gap in Seattle’s City Center Bike Network & creates a much-anticipated, safer connection between Pioneer Square, downtown, and the waterfront.

Construction officially began this week with underground work, and more visible changes on the street will follow in the coming weeks.
