BTW in case you're interested, you can actually play the original PC-88 version of Hydlide on Nintendo Switch, courtesy of EGGCONSOLE!

Those photos are amazing! A published book that collected scans of some of those arcade community notebooks would be so cool.

While we're celebrating Zelda's 40th, I want to give some love to some of the foundational action adventure games that predated it. Hydlide, in particular, deserves more respect outside of Japan for what it did for the genre in '84 (PC88).

The Katsuya Terada illustration isn't technically of the first Zelda game, I don't think, but I always felt his work captured its spirit best.

Shout out to The Legend of Zelda after 40 years! A game whose sense of exploration and adventure still feels unparalleled to me in many ways.

Hand-drawn map by my dad, from when we played the game together in the 80s.
Genuinely unnerving trailer for this upcoming stop-motion horror game. Just like the horror movies I'm interested in, I'm alternately excited and apprehensive to see what it's about!
And the team's previous games, Judero/Mashina (also stop-motion) are on sale: store.steampowered.com/bundle/49099...
I LOVE the new art-style for Rift Wizard 3. The first two games were pretty utilitarian pixel-art, but the chalk-sketch aesthetic here is gorgeous.

Fresh one up on my Youtube today, an A-Z exploration exercise of RPGs and strategy games on the Genesis! youtu.be/83_uoaxoIqA
Hopefully a few in there you haven't seen before, enjoy!
At GDC this year, I'll be one of several people giving a microtalk at this session:
schedule.gdconf.com/session/game...
The larger topic is "Games about Games" but my talk will be about game collections in particular.
I'm happy to hear that - thank you so much! I feel lucky to have gotten to work with some amazing people on them. 💓

I don't typically put much thought into chain scoring or scoring in beat 'em ups at all, but this one got me hooked on trying to go higher! And it's a free browser game! From the creator of Fight'N Rage.
Really impressive PICO-8 graphics, too!

Hi I'm on bluesky now! Last year was a hell of a year as my 2-year-old was diagnosed with cancer (!?!?!?) and spent much of it in the hospital. Thankfully it's in remission now. What a ride. Hoping to slowly get back into gamedev stuff this year!

The third update for UFO 50 on Switch is out now (v1.8.10)!
This one fixes a single issue where a detached Joy-Con could register multiple inputs.
But we're currently working on more bugfixes and optimizations, for a larger update in the future.
Whoa, congratulations!!! ✨🌟✨

23.01.2026 19:47 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Haha yeah... I'm in the same boat but I think what makes up for the loss of reaction time as you get older is the increased patience and discipline. I'm finding that a lot of these games (including GnG) are less about reaction time than I thought.
