As a middle power, Australia should be careful what it wishes for when it comes to an illegal war with Iran | Andrew Wilkie I resigned from the intelligence services over the fraudulent case for the invasion of Iraq in 2003. And I see some alarming parallels with this case

Do we really want a world where the strong can do as they please and the weak suffer as they must? I wrote for The Guardian today about why Australia shouldn’t stand for this, and why international law matters for a middle power like Australia #auspol #politas

Wow. Surely someone being resident means they contribute because they benefit from services. No matter *why* they are resident. I mean, that’s sort of the whole point!

An exception so they wouldn’t have to pay?!?

Arrogance. They think they can smooth over or get out of anything if they pay.

I can see how those who have children in Dubai might need to get back there urgently. But the rest could consider paying some tax for once in their miserable greedy lives and shutting the eff up.

I hope they’ll be okay, they seem cool.

Ha. I’m okay with the feet but the ball gown next to the pool and squinting down at the viewer like that are unfortunate choices. For a publicist she doesn’t seem particularly savvy about how images convey meaning.

Glad to see Haddad was strong in rebutting that. Exactly what needs to be said when that accusation is used inappropriately.

Yep. If you can’t get an appointment and/or can’t afford an appointment then the only option left is the urgent care clinic, which is not really the idea of them, surely. Seems like they’re just shifting the problem around.

Yes. That is so obviously true that I can only conclude that they don’t care about antisemitism at all. Only about political strategy.

Imagine the phrases Kelly Wilkinson heard in her last months. Women around the country hear hate speech directed against them every day, in words that sound nothing like β€œFrom the river to the sea”! They don’t want words banned though. They would just like the police to stop letting them be killed.

Police Minister Dan Purdie told parliament on Thursday the laws were necessary and powerful.

"Jewish Queenslanders simply don't feel safe. They don't feel protected," he said.

"This government is committed to ensuring all Queenslanders can live free from hate and violence."

Mr Purdie said the government was taking "decisive action" by enshrining the phrases into legislation.

This quote from the Police Minister: β€œThis government is committed to ensuring all Queenslanders can live free from hate and violence." So you banned some words!

When Kelly Wilkinson came to your officers days before her murder they told her to β€œcool off” and thought she was β€œcop shopping.” #auspol

This is embarrassing and disgraceful. And for Labor to claim the moral high ground is rich given federal Labor’s role in creating the atmosphere that’s led to this. How does this in any way stop antisemitism?! It just gives the Israel lobby another opportunity to bully its critics. #auspol

Yep, and using it as a profit -making opportunity for themselves and their associates… so they are stealing the American people’s essential services to finance their latest business venture. Mass murder as a side hustle.

Quit ChatGPT: right now! Your subscription is bankrolling authoritarianism | Rutger Bregman As a historian, I’ve studied the major consumer boycotts of history. We can take down ChatGPT and send a powerful signal to Silicon Valley, says author and historian Rutger Bregman

There is a global boycott underway against Chat GPT. Open AI is working with the Pentagon and ICE. They have donated $25 million to Trump. They are working for the authoritarians. People have the power to resist and send a message to the toxic tech bros.

Yes. Personally I don’t think there should be any funds given out without transparent criteria and rigorous processes.

Americans, listen to this and give it some thought and then stop wasting energy arguing about who is to blame for Trump. You need to change the whole system. We all do.

Agreed. I suspect they make decisions that are overreach often. But usually it takes the form of discouraging certain people from applying or vetoing them for funding outside of a formal grant program… so no one knows. This time they have left themselves open to scrutiny.

04.03.2026 11:59 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Same sort of vague accusation and knee-jerk decision, definitely. If it’s not a grant program but rather a matter of ministerial β€œdiscretion” they might get away with it… But that just convinces me that funding should not be allocated in that way.

04.03.2026 11:39 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I would think so. I mean, let’s assume they did mourn a bad person. He was a significant figure in their culture. It’s not exactly unheard of for Anglo Australians to mourn leaders who are known to be of bad character…. Tony Abbott and George Pell spring to mind.

Either way, it would want to be more β€œrepugnant” that just what’s mentioned in the article or the Victorian Government has lost the plot.
