Agreed. I suspect they make decisions that are overreach often. But usually it takes the form of discouraging certain people from applying or vetoing them for funding outside of a formal grant program… so no one knows. This time they have left themselves open to scrutiny.

Same sort of vague accusation and knee-jerk decision, definitely. If it’s not a grant program but rather a matter of ministerial “discretion” they might get away with it… But that just convinces me that funding should not be allocated in that way.

I would think so. I mean, let’s assume they did mourn a bad person. He was a significant figure in their culture. It’s not exactly unheard of for Anglo Australians to mourn leaders who are known to be of bad character…. Tony Abbott and George Pell spring to mind.

Either way, it would want to be more “repugnant” that just what’s mentioned in the article or the Victorian Government has lost the plot.
