I remember being told air travel was safer than driving, it failed to reassure me. I flew so regularly I had to move near Heathrow & was woken early by the first concorde. The sound was unatural. Now no one talks about concorde, maybe no one likes to think about the how unatural flying is.

A Pyre for Other People's Plans The vitamins, once lined like obedient soldiers, soften first, sweating colours into the fire. My new bus pass warps, its polite expiry date blistering, curling away from the life it promised. The beige knitwear – gifted, practical, unasked for – crackles in cheap polyester glory, spitting static like it finally has opinions. Flames lift, delighted, daring me to dream improperly again.
