Reining in data centers sparks rare bipartisanship in statehouses With voters wary of AI and both partiesโ€™ ability to tackle it, the issue has not fallen along usual partisan lines, even in an election year.

"A rare source of bipartisanship has broken out in state capitols across the country: tackling data centers."

"Morality tales about virtuous entrepreneurs or predatory speculators are less descriptions of economic reality than prescriptive efforts to shape it. To label some capitalists as productive and others extractive is a political act โ€“ a way of trying to direct behavior toward socially desired ends."

Is March the boogeyman for financial stability?

This month has an uncanny record:
๐Ÿ”น March 2021 - Greensill Capital collapses
๐Ÿ”น March 2021 - Archegos collapses
๐Ÿ”น March 2023 - Credit Suisse collapses

A ๐Ÿงต on the role of shadow banks and what these episodes have in common 1/6

Report โ€“ Hidden risks in NBFI: Mapping vulnerabilities from shadow banking | Finance Watch

Risks that build up in the shadows donโ€™t stay there. When shadow banks fail, losses spill back into the banking system, with public budgets & citizensโ€™ deposits on the line!

Itโ€™s high time for a dedicated prudential framework.

Blue Owl shopped debt for a CoreWeave data center. Lenders weren't sold. Blue Owl tried to line up debt for a Pennsylvania data center tied to CoreWeave, but lenders passed, underscoring growing caution around AI-linked credit.

Blue Owl is featured in this article as a bellwether. Not mentioned is that it is one of the key financiers of the data center boom, specializing in lending to firms like CoreWeave with "less-than-sterling credit." As this article suggests, investors are increasingly dubious. #AIbubble

Screenshot of a paper abstract in Area by Caitlin Jones, Eliza Breder & Tyler McCreary (2026) entitled: 'Alligator Alcatraz and the Production of Environmental Carcerality in the Everglades' with a black banner at the top.

In June 2025, the state of Florida opened 'Alligator Alcatraz', a federal immigration detention centre, in the Florida Everglades, weaponising animals and landscapes to construct racialised geographies of fear and rationalise multispecies environmental injustice. In this paper, we examine the symbolic and material conditions of Alligator Alcatraz, pulling apart how what appears to be a novel use of landscape and species for immigration enforcement, is in fact, a deeply historical logic that draws on long-standing settler colonial tropes of emptiness, danger and disposability. We illustrate how both the American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis), and the Everglades itself, are conscripted into carceral geographies that reflect both ecological degradation and racialised state violence. The alligator becomes conscripted as a federal immigration officer, touted by federal and state officials as a mascot of environmental carcerality. Meanwhile, the Everglades is deployed as an empty, deterrent landscape, reviving a settler imaginary that has long justified its destruction and casts Indigenous land, life and knowledge and the more-than-human beings living within it as expendable. Alligator Alcatraz pushes us to consider what carceral geographies of US immigration policy reveal about the disposability of certain bodiesโ€”human, ecological and more than human. Ultimately, existing in this spectacle of the racialised past and present are the real human costs of detention development in the Everglades, which is damaging local ecologies and Indigenous and migrant lives.
