every architect who has taken a look at these trump “renderings” of the ballroom etc has said the same thing: there is no architectural truth to these. interiors depict windows that interiors omit, there is no way the scale of these renderings is true to any design….

A photo of a Gwendolyn Brooks poem titled “Paul Robeson” it reads:

Paul Robeson
BY GWENDOLYN BROOKS
That time
we all heard it, cool and clear,
cutting across the hot grit of the day.
The major Voice.
The adult Voice forgoing Rolling River,
forgoing tearful tale of bale and barge and other symptoms of an old despond.
Warning, in music-words devout and large,
that we are each other's
harvest:
we are each other's
business:
we are each other's
magnitude and bond.

Gwendolyn Brooks, 'Paul Robeson' (1970)

Thank you to @aestheticspolitics.bsky.social for sending this to me from the archives this week

America’s contract to protect white woman has always been tenuous | Saida Grundy ICE’s killing of Renee Good has revealed how the state will only defend those who uphold a white racial order. A 1915 film points to the origins of this social pact

Even if you know this history, the writing and analysis is brilliant. Recommend.

Jesse Jackson’s unapologetic progressivism was rebellion at its core Civil rights icon, who died Tuesday, shifted Black politics and leftist coalition-building from the sidecar of the Democratic party to the driver’s seat

"Jackson’s strategic legacy was that no vote is captive to a party that has not earned it," writes @saigrundy.bsky.social, "and that marginalized and overlooked voters are best heard when coalitions...challenge the party where their electoral margins for victory are the most vulnerable."

i think with a public (vs uni etc) library libby is restricted by copyright agreements and how much they can reproduce and distribute content for free, hence the limited “copies” and holds

i ride for libby but it’s not for the impatient. 3+ wk holds, then you get the book for 14 days. whereas spotify is just on demand streaming, no holds no limits.

spotify premium has one of the best catalogues of audiobooks i’ve seen since libby— included w/ subscription. i’m keeping a running list. clearly one of their interns just finished a black studies survey course www.facebook.com/share/p/hUsT...
