As we are still in the Octave of the Nativity of Chester, two parishioners - sisters Susan and Carol - who have always been big fans of Chester’s, made him a birthday cake which they delivered to the church yesterday. Tonight we had a second little birthday party (but he refused the hat this time).
Happy 5th Birthday Chester!
We interrupt this Lenten fast to celebrate the feast of Chester’s Nativity. 5 yrs ago today we learned that our puppy had come into the world….though it would be two And half months before we would get to meet him. Happy Birthday little guy. We love you ❤️🐶
Friends, may God journey with you through these Lenten weeks;
Love lead you through the valley of division and hate.
Light guide you amidst hopelessness and despair.
Peace lift you out of regret, shame and pain.
May the Risen One of Easter bless you with new hope, new joy and new life. 🙏🏼
I give up.
Sorry. Typo. 50
I get that. And I also pointed out the parallels with LGBTQ characters.
And clearly I’m not advocating “I don’t want to see them at all”.
I just think that this isn’t really addressing “not seeing them at all” in as positive a way as we might think.
Like I just wonder if what we’re actually doing is saying “black people can be visible…just as long as it’s in ways that don’t make white people uncomfortable”, in the same way that gay and lesbian people were only visible if they could be this funny sidekick or the psycho killer
Yes I totally get that and thats why I wonder what the alternative might be.
Maybe we don’t just tell “white stories with black people in them” but more black and brown stories too.
Because black people weren’t “just slaves or servants” - but in much of European culture and history they were.
I remember seeing an interview done with Carrol O’Connor while playing Archie Bunker in “all in the family”, and the interviewer suggested Archie was quite a loveable and funny character. O’Connor insightfully pointed out that Archie’s racism was central to who he is and makes him quite miserable…
What more would you want to see the King do, that’s within his power to do?
Yeah. She was never going to make her life about “serving the Commonwealth”.
You first
Not to mention the owner of the Dodgers has strong ties to ICE
Sure.
Thank you for posting.
Something she's concerned about has no specific "test" but is diagnosed through an elimination of every other possible issue. Hence all the testing...and the need for patience (which I am notoriously lax in!)
There’s that too.
