The people of Minnesota have executed one of the most impressive civil resistance campaigns I can remember:

- Organized a city wide general strike
- Maintained nonviolent discipline amidst violence
- Mobilized 10,000s in subzero temps to protest and watch ICE
- Flipped public opinion against ICE

I think it’s absolutely implied in the passage that “the sheep” are defined not by ethnicity, religious identity or even “belief” but by their actions. Earlier in Matthew’s account (chapter 7) Jesus says specifically “Not all who say ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the kingdom of heaven.”

My favourite part of the sheep and goats passage is that even the sheep ask “When did we see you hungry, naked or in prison and take care of you?”

So even the “righteous” aren’t doing the right thing to score points with the Lord. They simply do it because they want to care for their neighbour.

And they probably did say “Revelations”…most Christians do. Just like most Christians speak of “the four gospels”….when technically there aren’t four, but one. The Gospel of Jesus Christ. There are four canonical “accounts” of it.

Yes they hold to a view of God rapturing them up to heaven while the earth burns.

When God’s whole plan from Genesis onward is to bring heaven back to earth.

Well first of all, I would point out to them that it’s Revelation (singular) not Revelations (plural) and that the blood all over the robe of the returning King is his own…not that of those he’s slaughtered.

And yes, I know they’d completely ignore all of that.

The irony is that Christian Nationalists love the prophetic books of scripture like Revelation, yet the entire point of that book is that the One who overcomes the Beast and the Dragon and all the violent forces of domination, is the Lamb, who conquered by giving his own life, not taking others.

And it’s not that they don’t know anything…or that I know everything. I’ve certainly learned from teenagers!

It’s the assumption that because we disagree about something, I must be completely ignorant of everything.

The tactic of demonizing empathy was for moments like this.

When people have no empathy for others and are loyal to power above all else, they will believe whatever those in power say, no matter how false, and even distrust their own eyes when they see others being harmed.
