From Farm to Science: Itโ€™s in my Genes โ€“ a Global Journey in Dairy Cow Genetics Professor Jennie Pryce, one of Australia's leading voices in dairy genetics and genomics, grew up on a dairy farm in the UK where at an early age she bred pedigree Holstein dairy cattle. Since then, she has dedicated her life to dairy herd improvement. In her seminar ahead of International Womenโ€™s Day on Saturday 8 March, hosted by the ARC Training Centre in Predictive Breeding and facilitated by Dr Millicent Smith from The University of Queensland, Professor Pryce shares the opportunities that come with working in the dairy-breeding sector, while also acknowledging some of the key challenges women face. Professor Pryce is Research Director of the Genomics and Cellular Sciences team within Agriculture Victoria Research, part of the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, and a research professor at La Trobe University (LTU). Professor Pryce is also the ARC Training Centreโ€™s Deputy Director for Industry Engagement and LTU Node Leader. According to the International Dairy Foods Association State of Women in Dairy Report (2025), 41% of Gen Z and Millennial women believe itโ€™s hard to advance in the sector due to gender. When it comes to research, Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) May 2022 'Space Allocation' report confirms that women scientists have on average half the research space and one-third the research storage space as their male counterparts. This seminar highlights the incredible impact women are having in the research sector. Itโ€™s also an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of a trailblazer in the dairy breeding industry. If you are looking to be inspired, register today for this seminar. If you have any questions about the seminar, please contact the Centre Operations Team at predictivebreeding@uq.edu.au.

โ€œWhen we support each other, we really do all riseโ€. We celebrated #IWD2025 with a fantastic seminar from Agriculture Victoria Research Director and the Centreโ€™s Deputy Director for Industry Engagement, Prof Jennie Pryce, a trailblazer in the field of dairy herd genetics.
