But he ended 3 wars on Xebulon 5, so it's a net win!

Authoritarians claim the power not just to tell all of our stories but to select the definitive story that says who we are, what our nature, why we're here, in order to cast themselves as both forever hero protagonists while also endlessly victimized.

Trump just declared war on the Federalist Society, the same dopes who pushed all of the unitary executive crap. Rooting for injuries here I guess?

Have they even thought ahead to who might replace Maduro?

Let me say that I do not expect strategy from people who announce they are starting clandestine operations.

Bill Cassidy has done infinitely more for the antivaccine movement than he can ever claim he has done to promote vaccination. He is one of the worst antivaxxers to ever live.

A soldering iron melts solids into burning-hot liquids. Using one on something physically attached to your body is … certainly a choice.

Minister Diaz met with labor leaders, workers, and electeds across California last week. As the U.S. pretends that being anti-worker globally is somehow good for American workers, California can be a global leader with our int'l partners. Ministra, te agradezco por tu liderazgo y amistad. Adelante!

This was possible because of the incredible work of the dedicated career staff at the USDOL’s Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB), work that has been so undermined by this administration.

(A few photos from our meeting last year in DC when I was acting Labor Secretary.)

Que gusto verte en Los Angeles, @yolandadiaz.bsky.social! With Labour Minister Diaz, we strengthened international efforts to combat worker abuse & misclassification, and addressed threats to worker safety that have no borders like heat and consolidation of power by multinational corporations.

Should note: Pew is showing us mass ideological groupings, which don't necessarily aligns with elites. Elites dominate ideological discourse, but what trickles down, much less is accepted, is quite contingent. So no surprise elites being more tightly, coherently organized & mischaracterizing masses.

Different area but similar phenomena, how variants of conventional wisdom nonsense re party politics get repeated, utterly ignoring actual discernable sub-party groups, which evolve gradually over time: bsky.app/profile/did:...

that & several other scenarios seem plausible. there's an inherent messiness that all sorts of actors might want to exploit, quite separate from the event itself. recall this was only a few years after the U2 incident, when Americans were deeply shocked that Eisenhower had lied to them.

Ukraine’s allies rush to counter Trump’s β€˜non-starter’ peace plan Top British and European officials will join high-level talks between the U.S. and Ukraine starting Sunday, after Kyiv’s allies voiced concern at Trump’s proposed deal.

Stephen Sestanovich: The best sentence is the very last one: β€˜European officials and former officials have described the 28-point plan as β€œscandalous” and said Witkoff needs β€œa psychiatrist” if he thinks it will fly.’ www.politico.eu/article/ukra...

So many πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„, so little time!
I had no pretense of being an area expert, it was clear enough at the time just listening to whose arguments made sense, were consistent & aligned with known facts. People doubling down on known falsehoods disqualified themselves, making it much clearer to understand.

The Warren Report was actually filled with contradictory details. I know partly because my first girlfriend's brother got obsessed with it & found hundreds of them. This doesn't mean it was flawed/a coverup, but there was a real basis for distrust. An adversarial pre-release review would've helped.

It sure looks like Axios got played here. Ukraine held the line, but it was Axios who put them under terrible pressure. The only clear things about this shitshow are that Axios owes us an explanation, and that media must stop printing 'scoops' from motivated sources while granting them anonymity. 5/

it's unclear to me how conscious they are re what they're doing. you're phrasing sounds like you think it's deliberate, which may seem so at the micro level of advancing specific arguments. but there's also evidence they're spectacularly unselfconscious re what they're doing. so big picture, idk.

and not just probability! the idea that math has little to do with humanities, social science, politics is part of what keeps our politics so incredibly dumb. having had an early intro to algebra, set theory, etc. i was constantly thinking, "hey, that's not right" when hearing all sorts of arguments

I think the prevalence of anecdote in these systems is really a symptom of the difficulty the human brain has in developing probability based reasoning methods. And we aren't really teaching kids to think this way in schools. I run into this all the time.
