I read an article the other day (apologies for not recalling author but was in The Economist) about how to reframe every difficult political conversation with which you are confronted with the phrase, “I believe we have different values.” The phrase seems to confuse and disarm your confronter.

I think it’s high time we take back the national narrative. For centuries Americans of all races, genders, religions, and abilities have worked to create a more perfect union, and we should shout from the rooftops that WE are America. Not these idiot white supremacist authoritarians.

My husband just said, “I wonder if they’re at the part of the meeting where Putin lets him know that Russia has all the Epstein files.”

Below are the 30 U.S. cities with at least 100,000 residents that had the highest number of crimes against people, per 100,000, according to the latest FBI data report.

Goodness, Washington, D.C., forgot to be included!

JD Vance & Jim Jordon's Ohio makes a stellar showing. Heck of a job on crime!

TODD BLANCHE: "This is what we are willing to do, Ghislaine. If you publicly exonerate Mr. Trump, you'll get a pardon when he leaves office. In the meantime, we'll get you out of this hellhole and into one of country club prisons. Deal?"

Thank you to Satya Nadella, Amy Hood and MSFT staff in general. Not only were my twenty years there so intellectually challenging and often fun, but in retirement you are truly the gift that keeps on giving.

I just upped our annual donations to World Central Kitchen and Doctors Without Borders and specified that our donations be used for Gaza relief. I cannot believe our own country is letting these children starve to death. It appears the EU is putting together a relief effort as we speak.

I am so looking forward to hearing the incredibly convoluted logic of the deep red Trump base when he pardons Ghislaine Maxwell (which feels inevitable doesn’t it?)

“I had thought that the toxic sludge of shamelessness — that love child of Donald Trump and the internet — had wiped out the old-fashioned notion of humiliation, but I was wrong.” What a perfectly constructed sentence in today’s NYT. I had to celebrate it.

A Coder Considers the Waning Days of the Craft Coding has always felt to me like an endlessly deep and rich domain. Now I find myself wanting to write a eulogy for it.

With new advancements in A.I., bodies of knowledge and skills that have traditionally taken lifetimes to master are being swallowed at a gulp.

Is anyone else enjoying the Coldplay Jumbotron canoodling fallout as much as I am? Schadenfreude is such a wonderful distraction from the ongoing collapse of a previously strong nation.

Hi Atlanta public media fans! I just sent an extra donation to
WABE so that we, our children and especially our grandchildren can keep benefitting from public television and radio. Please join me in your town and city. Just because our nation has lost its damn mind doesn’t mean we have to!

My recommended best practice to make it through this time in history is to have coffee every morning with our national treasure Dr. Heather Cox Richardson.

A journey through the United States of barbecue From whole hogs to smoked fish and brisket, this all-American smoke-infused cooking style is as diverse as the US itself – and just as rich in history.

This was such a magnificent article on the southern summer delights of barbecue that I just had to share.

I agree completely. Please don’t think I think what they did was good in any way. But in fact - that’s exactly what they executed. Whether we like it or not. And I do not like it but here we are.

In an article about the Texas floods - “Events of this kind are no longer exceptional in a warming world," said Davide Faranda, of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). "Climate change loads the dice toward more frequent and more intense floods."
