The medical establishment's skepticism of three-year programs is wrong. We can train excellent doctors in three years. Drexel, welcome to the future of medical education.

Today's medical students arrive with strong science backgrounds. Most schools have already cut preclinical training to 12–15 months. Drexel is joining NYU and more than 30 other programs that have figured this out.
Drexel University College of Medicine just announced a three-year medical school program. It's about time.
I've been making this case for years, including in a recent @nytimes.com YorkTimes op-ed, and the evidence keeps piling up: you don't need four years to train a great doctor.
80% of New Year's resolutions fail by the end of February. How are yours going?
The problem isn't that they're too difficult, it's that people try to do them all at once.
As I write in "Eat Your Ice Cream," small, sustainable changes beat all-or-nothing approaches every time.
When it comes to eating well, we shouldn’t worry about getting it right 100% of the time, but following science-based advice is key. Great talking to @aarp.org about current health policy and my new book “Eat Your Ice Cream.”
Exciting news: My New York Times bestseller "Eat Your Ice Cream" is officially launching in the UK on May 7 with @penguinrandomhouse.bsky.social’s Ebury Books. Evidence-based habits for living well are coming across the pond.
Pre-order now. International orders can be placed using the link below.
Casual conversations have a way of turning into medical consultations when you're a doctor. That incessant asking is exactly what inspired me to write my new book “Eat Your Ice Cream.”
I sat down with @inquirer.com to share what I think the wellness industry keeps getting wrong.
Great talking about remaking health care with Marion Mass and @wendellpotter.bsky.social on @cherrigregg.bsky.social and @avi-wa.bsky.social’s Big Fix series on @whyy.org.

Price transparency is not an actual health care solution.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for price transparency. But when people need health care, price is rarely their only priority. Quality matters. And the price itself varies wildly depending on your employer and insurance plan.
Ben Franklin lived to 84 at a time when the average life expectancy was under 40. His retirement teaches us an important lesson about wellness. Staying useful, being curious about the world, and contributing meaningfully to society are keys to a happy and healthy life.
I watched speed skating at the Olympics in Milan this weekend. It was fantastic. As I write in "Eat Your Ice Cream," staying active is essential for a long, healthy life. You don't need Olympic-level training. A walk or run with a friend can do the trick.

I recently took a four-hour pie crust class and I learned a ton.
Of course, this class improves my culinary skills, but this also does wonders for my health.

It was an honor to speak at The Vatican about healthcare, sustainability, and equity.
Thank you to the Pontifical Academy for having me and for the engaging discussion on these important issues.

My new book has 6 simple rules to living a healthy life. But what would the 7th rule be? A good sense of humor.
I feel confident in the six rules I laid out in my book, but I am glad @stevenpetrow.bsky.social asked me about my humor in his last @washingtonpost.com story.
A study of 130,000 people found that drinking coffee and tea in moderation may lower dementia risk by reducing neuroinflammation and improving insulin sensitivity. As I discuss in "Eat Your Ice Cream," simple daily habits can have significant long-term health benefits.

Yes, microplastics are bad for our health, but testing for them is not the answer.
Research shows up to 90% of people have them in their bloodstream. Don't pay thousands to test, take precautionary measures instead – more on that in Part 2.

As I wrote in @statnews.com with Merjan Ozisik, there is plenty of bad coming out of the federal government on health care, but the action by CMS to uplift primary care and lower exorbitant health care spending is laudable.
www.statnews.com/2026/02/09/c...
Some positive changes from CMS include:
➡️Increased pay for primary care physicians
➡️Expansion of site-neutral payments
➡️Medicare Advantage payment increase of just 0.09% for 2027
For all the damage Trump’s done at the @fda.gov, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services has become the shining star of his second term.
As someone who helped design the Affordable Care Act, I have to acknowledge that CMS deserves recognition for making changes.

TrumpRx promises discounted drugs, but $199/month for Ozempic ($2,400/year) with no drug insurance benefit is still out of reach for so many Americans. Real drug price reform requires addressing the fundamental dysfunction in our pharmaceutical system. We need structural solutions.
A few weeks ago, I stopped in San Francisco for the “Eat Your Ice Cream” book tour at the @cwclub.bsky.social.
Thank you to everyone who came out and to @djpatil.bsky.social for the great conversation. It was a pleasure to speak about the habits that matter for living a long and healthy life.
