This short Associated Press dispatch, headlined “‘Turkey Throw’ Turns Into Riot; 2 Spectators Hurt,” was published by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and other newspapers on Dec. 23, 1949.

The Jaycees of Poplar Bluff made headlines 75 years ago when they sponsored a “Turkey Throw” two days before Christmas. They tossed six turkeys from the third-floor window of the courthouse. A riot ensued, and people were badly injured. The turkeys didn’t fare well either. #missouri-ee #missour-rah
