It was a pleasure to be asked by Stewart Lee and producer Miles Warde to sit in as the 'expert' on Great Lives this coming Monday at 3pm on BBC Radio 4, to celebrate Derek Bailey.

Our chance to honour him. No idea how it will come out, but we did our best.

All his ECM albums are excellent, with the likes of Barre Phillips and Mat Maneri chipping in occasionally. ECM at its best.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sofia Gubaidulina on March 13, 2025. She was regarded as the grande dame of contemporary music and the most significant Russian composer of our time.

Oh yeah, I was definitely in a minority with the Talk Talk appreciation. And I didn't like their then-current recordings when I subsequently checked them out. I can't remember the order of things, so sure you are right, though it does seem surprising. In retrospect, John Martyn was undervalued.

What made that day was how excited everyone - including the band - seemed to be that it was happening at all (+ it was a good show).

... The same year, I got to see some other big dogs (The Who; those Rolling Stones) and the last outing of the classic MotΓΆrhead. That's enough nostalgia for today.

Nice. Decent audio from the whole set. A grand day out. Well worth Β£9. I was very impressed with opening act Talk Talk. And just 9 weeks later, I got to see the current incarnation of Genesis at the NEC.
