Woke up this morning, still full of joy and gratitude to all the friends coming from all over the world to participate in this year's Rutgers Workshop on Chinese Philosophy. We got to enjoy each other's company while indulging ourselves in debating the finer points of classical Chinese philosophy.

Suddenly Old, Suddenly the Other: On the Unfamiliar World of Aging All at once and much to my surprise, I am old. I did not expect it, and it is not what I expected. The world in which I worked, struggled, dreamed, and loved now regards me quite differently than i…

Beautiful meditation: "To become old is to become 'other' to oneself, 'other' to one’s friends and family, to one’s world. Losses have broken up familiar boundaries, violated definitions, revealed unsuspected landscapes, opened ways of thinking and feeling previously unimagined."

During a quick trip to Toronto several days ago, we had a chance to visit the famous Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) near University of Toronto. ROM has a rather impressive collection of Chinese art. Definitely worth a look.

I almost forgot how impressive NYC can be, especially from high above. Had brunch with friends at Dim Sum Palace in Chinatown. Dragon dancers came into the restaurant! Loads of fun!

Attending a Conference on Agency and Experience at Princeton right now. It brings together scholars of Buddhist philosophy, cognitive science, and others in a series of fascinating conversations. Jay Garfield is speaking right now on the primacy of experience.

Drove to Philadelphia this evening amidst a bit of snow flurry to watch a fabulous performance of Tchaikovsky’s piano concerto no.1 by the one and only Wang Yuja with Philadelphia Orchestra. Dinner at a decent Sichuan restaurant, Emei, in Chinatown before the show. All in all, a wonderful evening.

Had a quick trip to China with an overnight stay in Hong Kong, which gave me a chance to visit the giant Buddha not too far from the HK airport. The 20-minute cable car ride to the big Buddha was quite amazing as well.
