One of my favourite descriptions in older literature is "a person of strange fascinations". Depending on context, it means they're either a weird sex pervert or a colossal nerd, and it's handy to have a phrase that can mean both of those things because in my experience they're often found together!

I posted this and then sat with my tablet open and untouched and my face in my hands for an entire hour just thinking about fic scenes

Over the past month I've been writing a fic that's at this point nearly 90k words long, 200 pages, longer than anything ive written in my whole life, and I just cant stop reading it and rereading it. I like actually cannot focus on doing anything else and it's ridiculous. It's not done yet

Exactlyyy "boy" is an imposition from the outsider perspective, and it makes it really clear who the author is more than it helps inform the characters. There is regional differences with use of the "guy" category functioning as another replacement but still i think "boy" makes it into fic too often

It makes me feel as if I'm reading a story about children or teenagers, its silly, or at least know your characters mindset for what word they would.use is really the most important thing

the other thing that really bothers me is people using "the boy" for characters that really would consider each other men. When I was a 20 year old I did not think of my college peers as "the boy"—boy as in GENDER yes but not "the boy" as in descriptor, rather than "the guy" or "the man", ridiculous

Bill Hargrove, age 16, is one of the 3 teenage protagonists of the graphic novel Blue Hollow. He is mixed race, dressed in a formal sweater in slacks, but he's unkempt and off-kilter, throwing a leg over the arm of a chair with a bravado that speaks of a loss of patience. Cookie the dog stands guard at his knee. Bill is a very tired young man who is mentally unwell for a variety of reasons (ghost and/or family-related), and the illustration shows him reclined in an armchair in the library in evening, suggestively splitting the pages of a book open while looking up at you. You're not sure if what he has to say will be sarcastic or heartbreaking.

There's a lot of things in fanfic convention that drive me nuts, but I swear if I have to hear what "the blonde" "the brunette" and "the raven-haired man" are up to one more time, I'll lose something

The joke of the post comes from adobe being one of the most parasitic and crappy companies that exist, but many people are trapped in the cycle of the subscription due to the fact that it is very much an industry standard program set in A LOT of creative professional industries.
