LOL I observed the same priorities here in The Hague during snow and ice storm last week - bike lanes were swept clean and crowded. Cars were sliding around on the icy streets, and pedestrians were creeping along slippery sidewalks, but bikes were commuting as usual with no chains or knobby tires.
This photo, passed on by a friend, was taken in Denmark. It prompts me to resurrect the #extremecivilisation hashtag, used to describe the manufacture of things no one needs.

Yes: oceanographers call 'age' the time since deep ocean water was last in touch with the atmosphere. It is a measure of 'ventilation', deep vertical overturning of the ocean.
