After reports of increased detentions at the ICE offices in downtown San Diego leading to overcrowded conditions in the basement holding cells of the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Building, Reps. Juan Vargas and Scott Peters showed up Monday morning to inspect the facilities. ICE turned them away.

The reactions to this on this platform show why it's hard to take this place seriously. This is a terrible look. I work in CA politics. This is how she is. No Executive experience. No Sacramento experience (it's a different beast). No friends in CA state government. She'd be a disaster.

Here in San Diego, it's really tough to navigate around SDGE, because if you cross them, you end up crossing Labor. Down here, SDGE is seen as Labor-friendly (they have a great contract), so cutting off SDGE also means pissing off Labor, who's even more powerful. I can see why SD pols don't sign.

How do you track “fossil fuel money?” Only the corporate political funds, or do you just total it up by “employer” on open secrets? I refuse to be mad at candidates for taking $ from IBEW line workers who happen to be employed by SDGE, for example.

this is a massive election for the future of san diego county (3.1M residents!) and has gotten very little national attention. honestly not that much local attention either!

Did you know that control of the board of San Diego County is on the line on Tuesday?

The board is split 2-2, and a Dem and Republican are fighting for the fifth spot in a few days.

One reason this matters: immigration policy and ties with ICE.

Feel like a good idea for the centrist faction, WelcomeFEST folks would be to recruit and support talented, young, dynamic outsiders who share their worldview.

Gonna say it again: it’s not good for *anyone* on either side to try and turn local US races into referendums on Israel-Palestine.

Today they have crossed a deep red line.

We, the people, must hold the president and his appointees accountable for this outrageous abuse against American liberty.

If you're going out protesting I have one piece of advice beyond the standard safety tips: Bring a towel. If you're gassed, you're gonna need it, trust me.
