It's an old and obvious pattern. An unpopular president - failing on the economy and losing his grip on power at home - decides to launch a war for regime change abroad.

The American people don’t want to “run” a foreign country while our leaders fail to improve life in this one.

For the first time in decades, I handed my successor an air traffic controller workforce that was growing instead of shrinking.

Disturbingly, the Trump administration can't or won't say whether that’s still the case.

Congratulations to Eileen Higgins on being elected Mayor of Miami! The first Democrat elected to this position in decades, she understands what politics is about: building a safer, more affordable, and better everyday life.

After reports of increased detentions at the ICE offices in downtown San Diego leading to overcrowded conditions in the basement holding cells of the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Building, Reps. Juan Vargas and Scott Peters showed up Monday morning to inspect the facilities. ICE turned them away.

How San Diego Democrats are using Prop 50 to reach new voters Democratic party activists say the red district targeted by the special election already has more liberal-leaning voters than even the residents in the area might think.

Heh, @kpbssandiego.bsky.social managed to capture my best side, I guess! 😅 www.kpbs.org/news/politic...

The reactions to this on this platform show why it's hard to take this place seriously. This is a terrible look. I work in CA politics. This is how she is. No Executive experience. No Sacramento experience (it's a different beast). No friends in CA state government. She'd be a disaster.

Here in San Diego, it's really tough to navigate around SDGE, because if you cross them, you end up crossing Labor. Down here, SDGE is seen as Labor-friendly (they have a great contract), so cutting off SDGE also means pissing off Labor, who's even more powerful. I can see why SD pols don't sign.

How do you track “fossil fuel money?” Only the corporate political funds, or do you just total it up by “employer” on open secrets? I refuse to be mad at candidates for taking $ from IBEW line workers who happen to be employed by SDGE, for example.

The job market is showing signs of weakness as Trump's tariffs take effect U.S. employers added just 73,000 jobs in July, according to a report from the Labor Department Friday, as the unemployment rate inched up to 4.2%. Job gains for May and June were also revised sharply ...

Today's jobs report shows 24,000 factory jobs lost in the past three months.

Trump’s first term brought a manufacturing recession. Now his reckless tariffs are making Americans worse off, again.

Can anyone tell me how this is an unreasonable take?

“Your approach starts with compassion — compassion for transgender people, compassion for families, especially young people who are going through this, and also empathy for people who are not sure what all of this means for them,”

Think about what the GOP is revealing with their attempt to suddenly change the Congressional maps: they know their agenda is so unpopular that they're going to lose unless something changes.

Of course, what they should be changing is their policies, not the maps.

I am being negatively polarized from “mostly fine, few dumb ideas, would probably have ranked him third” to a rabid pro-Zohran partisan by how fucking vile this shit is.

America's Finest City? More like America's Forgotten City.

We're used to it, but it's definitely frustrating. This race has national implications...we're the largest border county in the country, you'd think with all the focus on immigration, people would pay attention!

this is a massive election for the future of san diego county (3.1M residents!) and has gotten very little national attention. honestly not that much local attention either!

This is why I constantly talk to people about engaging in local politics instead of national. It is so much more fulfilling to put in work when you can actually influence the results, plus, you have less time to doomscroll about DC

The Six Elections to Watch This July - Bolts We’re only days removed from the political earthquake in New York City’s mayoral race, but the election calendar matches on: There are many fewer contests on the ballot in July... Read More

Did you know that control of the board of San Diego County is on the line on Tuesday?

The board is split 2-2, and a Dem and Republican are fighting for the fifth spot in a few days.

One reason this matters: immigration policy and ties with ICE.
