As an author, I don't make a whole lot of money, but at the same time I need to read a lot of books to stay aware of trends and support my fellow authors. Obviously if I spend all my profits on other people's books, I'm not coming out ahead!

So: ways to read lots of indie books for cheap.

I’m begging novel writers to hire an artist for their covers. At least someone who can do graphic design at a minimum. I see the worst book covers on here everyday and you’re all doing such a disservice to yourself to put in the effort to write a whole book only to turn people away with a bad cover.

Btw, the TCG was also based on multiple, diverse cultures from around the world at different time periods. And while I tried to do my best to do my research and stay respectful, they were ok with guys just objectifying women from all over, from all periods, all ethnicities, since it pleased men. 7/7

It's crazy to me that, while there's -usually- a social consensus on how racism, homophobia, ableism and other forms of discrimination are wrong, sexism (while still publicly discussed and fought against) gets free reins so often as it doesn't bother most men, i.e. the oppressor group 6/7

Of course, this extends far beyond that game in particular, and applies to all kinds of media, whether it's professional, commercial or otherwise. And while there's lots of debate on what the limits are on freedom of speech, it's hard for me to understand why this sort of stuff gets as much 5/7

It did bother me back when I worked with them, it hurts to see it still going like that while fascism is rising everywhere like there's no connection between the two issues. While the manosphere gains more adepts and incels are bred from all sorts of places, especially among the young. 4/7

and gets lots of traction, getting big gigs abroad for well-known IPs. Meanwhile, more serious (and more talented) artists get barely any attention, let alone good enough compensation. Misogyny sells, after all, especially in societies that don't really agree on condemning it 3/7

Of course, most of their player base is just men of all ages. While I'm inclined to believe not all of them support that kind of content (it pains me to call it art), the ones who are vocal do, while the rest don't complain. One of the artists doing is notoriously famous and supported for that 2/7

Every now and then I see stuff from a TCG I used to do art for (& which I used to play as a kid), and that I ended in pretty bad terms with, and I can't help but think of how misogynistic a lot of their art is (not all, there are some cool people working there), and how players celebrate that. 1/7

you do have to do it in a couple of places but this tutorial makes it easy to go uncheck the boxes that otherwise lets Google's AI read all your shit. or move everything over to protonmail but moving everything over is a giant thing I know.

Nobody is gatekeeping the process - Al simply invites you to skip to the end, to the output. Which, as mentioned, is not creativity. Nobody cares if the output is aesthetically pleasing, because the process, the act itself, the limitation of a single human mind and the resulting creations that capture that one single inimitable human experience... is what makes a creation worth paying attention
